Well, Fujimi is certainly maximizing on the payback opportunities for this mold.

As I believe I stated before, if you don't already have a stash of IJN DD PE to draw upon, the Fujimi combo set make a lot of sense.

Rainbow of HK has just released a full PE fret for the Fujimi Shiratsuyu square bridge type. Similar in makeup and appearance to the Fujimi version, it offers corrected pieces for the forecastle and stern treaded decking, which the Fujimi version does not. I would question the solid sides around the 25mm platform in front of the bridge, and the shape of the TT director platform; otherwise, it looks to be very, very nice.

You only get one ship per fret, and at approx. US$12.5-$13, it's about 25% more per ship than the Fujimi version. But, the extra $2.5 -$3 seems more than worthwhile in order to avoid the pain of correcting the plastic decking. You also get a lot of other treaded decks, and full torpedo reload bays. (The forward set would work just as well on an Asashio class DD.) I've ordered two.

Are there to be any late-war destroyers of this class to ever come out?

Possibly. Fujimi just listed a new special version, SP15, that translates as a late war Shiratsuyu type with etching parts. http://www.fujimimokei.com/product/toku_series.html

We'll have to see exactly how late in the war it is.

Dan

This seems to be http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10192437 as already posted by Vladi and Atma. It is described as a "Late Type Outbreak of War".

Poor Mr Red October still has to wait. I'd like to think that a late war kit will appear soon but we are still waiting for an early Kagero Class so don't hold your breath. You may have a bit of conversion work to do.

I'm also thinking of building Shigure which I believe was Hara's (Japanese Destroyer Captain) ship.

Terry, when you're logged in, please change your board style to "subsilver 2" in order to view the forum properly. It's a bug resulting from a recent "update". You can change your board style by going to User Control Panel (near the top of the page) -> Board Preferences -> Board style (drop-down menu) -> subsilver 2.

Thx, Terry. They do appear to be the same kit.

Hara is aboard Shigure in 1943, for all the battles further up in the Solomons chain. So, one can easily use the early war kit and add the twin 25mm in front of the bridge, plus triple 25mm on the bandstand around #2 funnel. She got those AA upgraded at Yokosuka in the late spring of 1943.

She probably does not get her radars until spring of 1944.

I might go into it more over on the Kagero CASF thread but, Fujimi really did a much better job on this DD class than the Kagero type. Bow is much better, plastic is much better.

A new Shiratsuyu class Imperial Destroyers will be released this April by Fujimi, IJN Mursame/IJN Yudachi, as with all new IJN Destroyers in 1/700 released by Fujimi will be two kits in one box.

On the face of it, it's just another square bridge reboxing. Not even late war. Jeez.

The late war, square bridge variant featuring Shigure is now available. You can click on the link Atma provided above. Sprue K looks to be the new addition, with late war mast pieces, etc. Samidare can also be built but, when she was sunk, she most likely diod not carry the Type 13 radar, only a Type 22.

Greetings and hello. New to all this, but joining the fray with a Tamiya 1/700 Harusame build. This is my first ship model, in, oh 50+ years and am eager to finish the build. The kit came off the shelf at my LHS. Owner said he got it from an estate sale and re-wrapped it in shrink wrap. Box is a little faded with a few traffic marks on it. Other than that, it's complete. Real un-scientific reason for choosing the Harusame as a build. Looked at all the box backs trying to decide which of the selections looked like it had the fewest appendages - AA guns, etc. Harusame came out the winner. Since then, have been impressed with what I've found in researching it.

Affixed the ballast weight to the waterline base, and put a coat of hull red on the bright red base. It's inverted now and I'm practicing my Kanji to freehand "Spring Rain" in the recess Tamiya provides for scale and name. Tamiya depicts it on the instruction sheet, but it's not provided as a decal. Hard telling how that'll work out.

Anyway, I've gotten good info off this thread as reference for future IJN DD builds. This one, though, will be a quickie to get my feet wet - so to speak. However, the main guns and torpedo tubes will be aimed off the starboard beam to depict how it "might" have looked early on during the First Battle of Guadalcanal. Cheers.

So... After all this time and my countless nagging on when a lete-war Shigure will come out.. I am glad to say i finally snagged one! Lol I shall make a build page for my wonderful Shigure and will build her along side of the 3 kaze sisters im doing now. Now for her sister Samidare .. I was looking at the TROMs and it says that the x turret was probably removed .. Is there any verification known? And also just for my own verification it is only Shigure that received the type 13 radar and is the only ship other than akizuki class to have the type 13 on the for mast and the only ship in her class to have a type 13 correct?

Timing-wise, Samidare's end of 1943 dockyard refit works well on timing for a replacement of the 12.7cm turret. AFAIK, Shigure's foremast mounted Type 13 radar is unique until the Akizukis.
