Hi,

Although based on the Álvaro de Bazan F100 Class frigates of the Spanish Navy built by Navantia, the new Hobart AWD class destroyer of the Royal Australian Navy, seems to have however some differences.

While the Spanish ships (at least the last of the class F105 Cristóbal Cólon) has 2x MK38 Mod2 25mm guns on each side of top of the hangar, the Australian ships will have one Vulcan CIWS.
The MK38 Mod2 25mm guns on the Australian ships seems to be located on the wing bridge, where the Spanish ship seems to have the 20mm guns.

The Hobart Class Destroyer also have 4 sets of the quadruple Nulka Decoy System Launcher, and the design seems to be the same as adopted by the last ship of the F100 class Frigate, as the FWD funnel shape is concern.

Any idea of any other differences between the two ship classes?

Thanks.
Regards,
Ayala Botto

But the first ship will be commissioned in 2017. After the experience with USS Zumwalt I will wait until they are in service.

Having sailed past the shipyards a few times over the past couple of years, I must say that whilst she might be very functional, she is not a pretty ship.

cheers,
