G'day people,

I managed to win a 1/144 Revell Gepard Klasse 143a "Schnellboot" kit at my model club raffle. For $2 I am pretty pleased, kit seems like a nice little kit.

I don't know much about modern German Navy colours however and the Revell colours do not help. What is a good match for the overall grey colour and the darker horizontal deck colour please?

I would prefer a Gunze/Tamiya equivalent,

cheers,

Pappy

Hi Pappy, I will bite, since i am working on some Bundesmarine projects:

This site was pretty conclusive in determining color for modern German navy:

http://www.schnellboot.net/de/bundesmarine-deutsche-marine/diverses/farbcodes-marine/index.php

Modern Klasse 143A colors are painted in the darker (dunkel) scheme.

So, for modern day colors:

Hull and Superstructure: RAL 7000 (available as Testors Dunkelgrau 51 in enamel, though there may be some acrylic bottles remaining available)
Deck: RAL 7012 (this was a bit harder to find, but I identified it as Lifecolor UA 108)
Waterline: RAL 9005 (a generic black or very dark grey)

The underwater hull color (RAL 3000) seems to match closely to Testors MM insignia red. Dont quote me on this, I build 1:700 waterline so this typically is not a concern of mine! :cool_1:
