Have just joined the forum as have a general interest in WW1 and WW2 navy ships (my father was on Victorious in the FAA in the Pacific Fleet). Simple question - is there any info out there on how a range finder works? I have been watching some YT clips eg on Bismark and the PE shows a very fine array and was wondering how it all works. Cheers

In addition to the Wikipedia articles, there's this on Navweaps: http://www.navweaps.com/index_tech/tech-078.php

Scroll down for a diagram to cut to the chase on the basics.
