"Model Art," noted above, is a monthly publication in Japan, covering all types of plastic/resin modeling - ships, aircraft, armor, cars and some Japanese anime subjects, from science fiction to figures. Every few issues, the cover story is on the latest 1:700 or 1:350 scale naval release. Richly illustrated, but all text in Japanese. You can find second-hand copies on Ebay.
Occassionally, Model Art will publish a special issue within their monthly schedule on 1:700 scale modeling, featuring builds. In the past, they have dedicated issues to battleship builds, or catalogs of all kits issued in the WL series. Search for "1:700, books" on Ebay to catch some of these publications.
"Model Art Special" is a quarterly publication from the same publisher, but dedicated to 1:350 and 1:700 scale ship modeling. Profusely illustrated and diagramed and thus instructive and inspiring despite the largely Japanese text. Some captions and titles in English - you can certainly determine what ship they are modeling. Each issue dedicated to a different subject - key battles and their respective ships, classes of ships (4 issues alone dediciated to IJN destroyer classes). Most recent issue is #42. Recent back issues available from mail order shops in Japan, and some internet-based US shops as well. Older issues available by Ebay; it took me about 4 years to collect all the issues to date: 40+ issues.
Same publisher has published occassional soft-cover books on "how-to" assembly on various 1:700 and 1:350 scale kits, but these releases seem very occassional and erratic.
"Model Graphix," noted above, is a monthly publication in Japan, much like Model Art above.
Navy Yard (now at issue 21) is published by Model Graphix and dedicated to ship modeling. Available, as far as I can tell, only from mail order shops in Japan. Ultra-lush and detailed photography of assembled ship models, primarily Japanese subjects. Some titles and captions in English, but less instructive about techniques or scratchbuilding.
