In New Orleans, LA:

Hub Hobby Shop
3829 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA
(504) 828-6868

I haven't had customer service of their quality anywhere else. Case in point: I transferred to New York about three years ago and had not visited/called the shop until I moved back to Louisiana a few months ago. The owner still remembered my name and bias toward IJN BBs.

Their ship selection is smaller, but they'll order practically anything you want for a really good price. I picked up a Fujimi 1/700 Nagato full hull for $36.00 plus tax.

Avenel Hobbies in Woodbridge and F+M Hobbies in Denville are two of the best in North Jersey. There is also a store in Ridgefield, one in Maplewood and one in Kenvil.

In Perth Western Australia,

Perth Hobby Centre
396 Murray Street, Perth
Western Australia 6000
http://www.perthhobbycentre.com.au

It's right in the heart of the Perth CBD huge range of die cast cars and die cast military stuff. They have a huge range of military and aircraft kits and not a bad selection of ship kits in both plastic and wood, and the bandai stuff. Half the store is taken over by RC cars, trains, planes and helicopters, but great for a browse and if i need something in a hurry.

Though my personal fav and where I get most of my supplies is;

Stanbridges Hobby Shop
23 Railway Parade, Mount Lawley
Western Australia 6050
http://www.stanbridges.com.au

Perth's largest and oldest hobby shop with a huge range of everything from books to kits, die cast, dolls houses, rockets etc.

Magic Box Hobbies, right? How's their ship selection and pricing? It's not on a SkyTrain line so I've never had the chance to visit, but I might this holiday season.

Yes, I was at Magic Box Hobbies yesterday.

They have a fair selection of model ships in 1/700, 1/350, etc., and across brands such as Aoshima, Hasegawa, Trumpeter and so forth. Their selection is not as big as that in Imperial Hobbies in Richmond, BC, where I do most of my modelling-related shopping.

They also have a wider selection of Aoshima kits than Imperial Hobbies, including rarer kits such as the super-detail seaplane tender Chitose with PE sets included, but I am guessing most of that is just old stock since the store seemed just about deserted when I went there. It seems to be an "Mom and Pop"-run model store run by a middle-aged Chinese couple, while Imperial Hobbies is run by several younger people and one middle-aged guy.

Still, their prices are on average 4-6 dollars lower than the prices in Imperial Hobbies.

For example:

Trumpeter's 1/700 HMS Repulse is around 35 dollars, while the same kit is 39.99 at Imperial Hobbies.

Trumpeter's 1/700 HMS Renown is about 36 dollars, while the same kit is about 41 dollars Imperial Hobbies.

Tamiya's 1/700 HMS Repulse is only around 49.99 at Magic Box, while the same kit is about 64 dollars at Imperial Hobbies.

Trumpeter's 1/700 DKM Tirpitz is 26 dollars, while the same kit is about 29.99 at Imperial Hobbies.

Still, there are some kits that are nearly the same in pricing, such as Tamiya's 1/700 Hood (with the bonus E-class destroyer included) which are around 63 dollars at both stores.

*On a sidenote, Magic Box has a Boxing Day sale at 20% off on all purchases, while Imperial Hobbies has a Boxing Day sale at 25% off all purhcases. Not sure if these are better or worse to what you're used to at model stores on your side of the Rockies.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyways, these 3 posts were are already off-topic. If you want I suggest you should move it to the appropriate section, if any, that deals with particular region's hobby stores and reviews, etc.

Hi there,

Re the list of shops in Singapore and just to make sure no one makes a wasted trip, please note:

1. Hobby Point at Tiong Bahru Plaza has moved to "Bras Basah Complex", new address as follows:

The 15 minutes west of Pgh was at the old McFarland Road address. It's now about 30 - 35 minutes SW of Pittsburgh. I went from 3 miles away from this place to 20 miles away to 40 miles away in the last 5 years! :pout:

Here's my local shop now (Cranberry Twsp, PA - 25 minutes N of Pittsburgh):

Hobby Express
1713 Route 228
Cranberry Commons Mall
Cranberry Twsp, PA 16066
http://www.hobbyexpressinc.com

They usually have a very nice selection of ship models on site. Also great stocks of paint, Evergreen, glues, etc.

Also in the north is:

Grand Central Hobby
20555 US 19
Cranberry Twsp PA 16066
http://www.grandcentralhobby.com

I was in here once and they had a very limited selection of ship models. The shop is divided into 2 sides: one for baseball cards/comics and the other side for models, trains, etc. They seemed to lean more heavily towards the baseball card stuff than the modeling stuff. At least that was my impression when I was there.
