Yeah I know there shouldn't be but let's face; without something in this scale even the best build jobs have a very hard time not looking like a toy. And more to the point, the Alanger kit is missing piles of lines that SHOULD be there. Not what I would call a minor flaw.

Also just measured my Alanger kit (fergot I still had one); comes out to 20.25", so certainly too long by way too much if 19 5/8" is correct for 1/350.

And casting my vote for an accurate 1/350 plastic (or resin even) Typhoon class.

Hi,
Can anyone point me to a picture of a soviet SSBN loading missiles?
I would like to build a small vigenette showing the Kursk being loaded with nuclear missiles.

How long are the Oscar class and Akula and Sierra and last the Victor III classes to stay in service till ?

Kursk was an SSGN, not an SSBN. If you do want to depict Kursk being loaded with a nuke, it would have to be a P-700 Granit (NATO: SS-N-19 Shipwreck) anti-ship cruise missile.

I found a book showing US submarine being loaded but not soviet on though.

That is indeed the SA-N-15.
Another note though, the missile being loaded in the black and white pics is not a Granit at all. It's probably a picture of either a Charlie or the Papa sub being loaded with their missile (forgot the name). Granit has its booster as a short cilinder behind the actual missile, while this one has boosters below its aft wings. In addition the Granit is more fat and has a blunter cap in the front to protect its air inlet. This missile has a rather sharp nose which is connected to its body (not a protective cap). Nice find though. You can also see in the picture that the conning tower of the sub in question is not next to the missile compartment, which is the case on the Oscar, but not the case on Charlie and Papa.

If you go back to the previous page of that thread you can see the notable amount of work California Bound put into it to turn it into a more accurate boat.
Also there is a more detailed review if you google the kit.

In any case, bottom line is that Gepard is a one of a kind boat (i.e. only one has been built and, to my knowledge, will be built) with so many differences from the "standard" (i.e. Mainstream) Akula I and Akula Iimproved (for whatever those designations are worth anyhow) that I would have expected Bronco to at least get it 90% correct, which they fail.
Also consider that today there is a pretty good wealth of info available on this boat, which makes the errors even more noteworthy

As I already said somewhere else in this forum, the current only accurate model of an Akula I am aware of, is the Combat Sub series Pit Road resin one. It is obviously OOP now and whenever one pops up it goes for quite a price, so I look forward to a styrene decent one.
