I got the last part of my Mikro Mir Typhoon in (hull was cracked) so pictures will be coming soon.

Well, here are the pictures..... I do not know how to make them bigger though.

I have a question about the Hobby Boss Oscar II kit. On top of the sail there is a square opening in the front, was there a cover for that in real life, or was it always opne?

I measured mine a few days ago and it seems to be the right length. Detail on the hull is rough but much better than the Alanger kit. But I find the masts and sensors to be terrible, and have no love for the PE props. I'll be taking these bits out of the Alanger kit. I might get the SloppyBoss kit as well to rob these parts. But to my eyes, the hull although it will be a rough build is better than previous attempts at a Typhoon IMO.

I wasnt really surprised at the roughness of the kit, all of my mikro mir kits have been like that. I just like the accuracy.

Another HB Oscar II question, are the two objects along the after portion of each side of the hull the sea water induction vents? HB didn't hollow them out, so I am just confirming. I also corrected the prop issues by removing the cones and swapping them to the other side of the props, so the pitch is correct.

The opening for the crew at the top of the sail does have shutters, so if you wanted to model it submerged, you might have to fill it in with putty. As for the coolant scoops, yes, they are hollow. There's a mesh inside, but in scale, you don't have to worry about that. Here's the only photo I could find:

Question... I am currently building the hobby boss alpha which by the way I enjoy very much more so than surprisingly the polar bear models Alfa ! My only question as far as accuracy, is on the after part of the sail, there is a small squares cut out, one on each side for PE. On all the pictures it only looks like there is only a vent on the starboard side of the ship and, that the port side vent should actually be filled is this correct? The location is on the rear of the sail, right as the sail begians to taper down towards the hull, And behind the Pennet ship number..

From some drawings and photos I have, it seems that you are probably correct. It's hard to tell because all the photos I have of the sail are from the starboard side.

Does anyone have any links to Charlie II prop pictures? I have started on my Polar Bear kit, and the blades are really close together and have identical pitch....

The one photo I have of an Alfa in drydock showing the port side and there is no vent there.

in the book on alfa from typhoon editor (705 proekta) they are some photo where you can see a open square on starbord and a hatch on port side, in other you can see two equal hatch
may be they are some difference in the boat of the class or in the career of each boat

I don't think the HB kit holds a candle to the Mikromir kit. The only inaccuracy I found was that there were two doors in the bow for thrusters when there should only be one on the starboard side. The weakest point of the Mikromir models is the way the hull pieces fit together, and the Typhoon is the worst example of this I've seen so far. Getting rid of the seam on a normal submarine model takes long enough, but it's going to take ages to do it for the Typhoon.

I definitely bough it for the accuracy. I kind of knew it wouldnt be easy as I have about 5 more of their kits.

I agree but what about the mast/sensor bits? The Mikromir bits are awful. I'm planning to use the Alanger bits to replace these and the plastic props because PE props with individual blades and no guide give me nightmares. I was wondering if the SloppyBoss bits would be nicer than the Alanger parts.
