Hi,

I ordered my 2nd 1/700 JAG LST Newport, and now I want to convert it to the Australian Navy version of this ships, named Kanimbla and Manoora, (LPA Class).

The current status of this on going project is:
Fwd deck enlarged and completed
Amidship Main Structures completed

Now the question about the Aft deck ("stern deck"): How long and wider is the new modified aft deck?

I suposed it has enough space , I mean 2x landing spots, for 2x SeaKings with unfolded main rotor blades, right?

thanks in advance

Hi, this is a late reply, as you probably have found out by now, but to keep this thread going . . .

Most of my references for the Kanimbla Class Landing Platform Amphibious (LPA) conversion states that the aft flight deck was cleared, reinforced, extended by 12-metres, with raking of the stern. The actually length and width I am unsure about.

You could try http://www.defencemodels.com.au which I think the company actually built a commissioned model of an LPA for the Department of Defence.

The hanger can house 3x Sea King or 4x Blakchawk helo's, with 2x landing spots aft. A Chinook can land on the aft deck too, but prolong operations are not possible.

I have attched some photo's to give a look of the size of the aft deck

Here is the best I can do at present.
http://www.navy.gov.au/HMAS_Kanimbla
http://www.navy.gov.au/HMAS_Manoora
No 25mm listed
Or do you mean the new ships to be built as part of the Kaminbla class that will have 4 25mm's one at each corner  & they reckon that is too many guns, sheesh!

Hi,

let's see if I can make my point here with the following 3 photos of HMAS Kanimbla.
The Red Circles shows what it seems to be .50 cal machine guns in a total of 4. 2x at the stern and 2x at the bow
The Blue Circles shows what it seems to be a 20mm(??) cal gun in a total of 2, one in each side of the ship.
The Green Circles shows what it seems to be a bigger gun than the previsous one, probably a 30mm stabilised gun in a total of 2, one in each side of the ship.

A bigger photo available here:

What's the type of the guns visible on the photos inside the circles?

thanks in advance

Hi,

I received a couple of emails regarding the issue of the weapons installed aboard HMAS KANIMBLA, that I want to share:
The circled weapons are as follows:

red: .50 calibre machine guns;

green: .50 calibre machine guns mated to a remote operation system called Mini-Typhoon mounts fitted with the M2HB0.5 cal gun and mounting FLIR and CCD camera tracking.

blue: 20mm Rafael Typhoon stabalised gun mounts. The big-brother of the mini-typhoon.

thanks
regards

Hi,

could you please send me the plans you're using to build your HMAS Kanimbla?
My project was suspend due to the lack of plans, photos and general information regarding this issue.
I think I would be able to resume my project with your plans....

Thanks in advance
