Here is one of my favourite third-generation containership designs. I particularly like the fact that the twin diesel engines required to power this trio (at their 1970's & pre-oil crisis design speed) were
so large that they protruded above the height of the hull. Note the shallow superstructure behind the main superstructure; this covers the top of the diesel engines. I also like the way the flare and knuckle of the bow and stern is integrated into the hull. All three motorships were built for
Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha's (K-Line) and
Orient Overseas Container Line's (OOCL) then new joint container service to Western Europe ports......
