Here is the CGT-French Line motorship M.V. Maryland......

M.V. MARYLAND; one of a class of four motorships, Magellan, Maryland, Michigan and Mississippi. Built for Compagnie Générale TransAtlantique-French Lines’ Dunkerque-Le Havre to Pacific Northwest ports’ route. The three later ships had a goal-post mast and twin king-posts at hatches 1, 2 & 3.

Builder – Ateliers et Chantiers de Provence, Port de Bouc. Yard N°. 293.
IMO 5227847
Laid down – unknown.
Launched – 26th June 1958.
Service 1958 to 1976 (C.G.T).

Length 149.5 metres, breadth 18.8 metres. 9,224Grt.

M.V. VENTOUX ; one of class of ten sisterships for Messageries Maritimes. 5 ‘G’ type Maori, Marquisien, Malais, Mauricien and Martiniquais and 5 ‘H’ type Vivarais, Vosges, Ventoux, Vanoise and Velay. For the Dunkerque to Australia service. Named for Mont Ventoux in Provence, she was jumboised to carry containers in 1973.

Builder – Ateliers et Chantiers de Provence, Port de Bouc. Yard N°. 304.

Launched 12th September 1960.
Service (MM) December 1960 to 1978.

M.V. CLEVELAND; one of a class of two motorships, Chicago and Cleveland. Built for Compagnie Générale TransAtlantique-French Lines’ Dunkerque-Le Havre route to the Great Lakes ports via the St Lawrence Seaway and fitted with icebreaking bows.

Builder – Ateliers et Chantiers de Provence, Port de Bouc. Yard N°. 302.

Laid down – unknown.
Launched – 8th April 1960.
Service 11th July 1960 to 1977 (C.G.T).

M.V. PASTEUR; built for Messageries Maritimes’ South American services, but originally ordered as AUSTRALIEN for their Australian/South Pacific service. Sold to The Shipping Corporation of India on 30th October 1972 as CHIDAMBARAM for their Madras-to-Singapore service but lost to fire on 12th February 1985 off Malabar and scrapped at Bombay.

Builder – Ateliers et Chantiers de Dunkerque et Bordeaux (France Gironde), Dunkerque. Yard N°. 247.

Laid down 28th April 1963.
Launched 2nd June 1966.
Service 28th October 1966 to 30th October 1972 (Messageries Maritimes).

Here is another French ocean liner from the 1960s, the Ancerville......

M.V. ANCERVILLE; built for Cie. de Navigation Paquet’s Marseilles – Casablanca - Dakar service, she was transferred to Nouvelle Cie de Paquebots in 1970. She passed into Chinese ownership as MINGHUA and still exists as a landlocked tourist attraction and hotel at Shekou near Shenzen.

Builder – Chantiers de l’Atlantique, St. Nazaire. Yard N°. M21.

Laid down – unknown.
Launched – 5th April 1962.
Service (Pacquet then Nouvelle) 5th September 1962 to April 1973.
