Dang, I'm cold just looking at it. Phenominal job!

Your photography is up to snuff Carl. I like these shots in the low winter sun.

Wow Carl.
I'm getting cold just looking at this.
As usual you set the bar up a few more notches.

You've outdone yourself with this one, Carl! I could swear I was looking at a real ship in some of those photos. Excellent work.

EXTRA!! EXTRA!!

Read all about it!!

Two new and wonderful reports by Russell Moody (aka: russ2146) have posted at Back-Aft.com

Russ puts two and two together and reports about experiments with air lifting the mail from between two USS Barnegat Class AVPs by a PB4Y-2.

http://www.back-aft.com/uploads/RussMoody_AVP_Mail_Exp.pdf

In a second report, Russ investigates the USS Mackinac AVP-13 and her multiple crane configurations. This one has been bugging Russ for a while, it seems.

USS Gardiners Bay AVP-39 was sold to Norway and became the Haakon VII (A 537) their naval cadet training ship.

Here is a large scale museum model of the Haakon VII.............

I'm excited to watch this Work-In-Progress by Luciano Rizzato. He is building a 1/350 model of the Pietro Cavezzale, Italian Navy training ship; formerly the USS Oyster Bay AGP-6.

Hello, Raymond!

I don't know about 1/72 scale hulls, only 1/96 scale.

http://www.group8models.com/barnegat.htm

http://www.loyalhannadockyard.com/

1/48 scale paper plans might be available from Loyalhanna, I think they'll be 1/96.

http://www.floatingdrydock.com/G.htm

You can get 1/96 paper plans from The Floating Drydock of the USS Unimak AVP-31. These are the same as my BGP digital images at Back-Aft Models. (I donated the original BGP to The Floating Drydock.)

At my Back-Aft Models online store, I have detailed micro film image collections from the NARA for the USS Barnegat Class AVPs. I don't have AVP-12 specific plans but, the Plans Common to Most AVPs and AGPs collection would be valuable for any AVP scratch building, however they'd have to be scaled up and printed out. I'm used to scaling the digital images to 1/700 and 1/350 so, a Letter or Legal Size paper usually gets me by.

http://shop.back-aft.com/Micro-Film-Images-Common-To-Most-AVPs-AGPs-AVP038.htm

The closest flight of AVPs that I have for the AVP-12 would be AVPs 29-32 NARA images....

http://shop.back-aft.com/AVP-29-thru-32-Micro-Film-Images-AVP029.htm
or the Combo Pack / Super Set......

http://shop.back-aft.com/AVP-29-thru-32-Super-Set-Micro-Film-Images-AVP029SS.htm

I hope that this helps you. I can be of more help with 1/350 AVP model projects.

Let me know if you think I can help you in any other ways.

Carl,

as i told you i am trying digest totally the entire thread from page 1 to here and all i can say is the evolution of your work is indescribable!my intent was to do the right research for the little project around the workbench but seeing your and other folks' work on the Barnegat/ Casco WHECs, and not to mention the AWESOME photography, that have collectively mesmerized me, .....i have to go all over the entire thread again to digest the details! THANK YOU for starting this thread and THANK YOU for your passion in propagating interest in this kind of ships that may not be a s sexy or famous than the BBs or even DDs but still are wonderful ships in their own right...

the little project i have in mind may not be too little after all and may take an eternity for me to do.... :doh_1:

With his permission, I want to announce the completion of Luciano Rizzato's 1/350 model of the Italian Navy Training Ship Nave Pietro Cavezzale, formerly the USS Oyster Bay AGP-6 PT Boat Tender. The Cavezzale was sold to Italy in 1957 and served up until the 1980's.

Luciano has modified the 1/350 USS Mackinac AVP-13 resin kit by Iron Shipwrights, Inc. and used a few custom parts from Back-Aft Models and scratch built many parts such as the boat crane and foremast. Quite a combination of aftermarket accessories were required to replicate the many features of this unique ship.

Luciano has posted in-progress photos on his web page at NavyModeling.com

http://www.navymodeling.com/Foto2004_Luciano_Cavezzale.html

Bravo, Luciano!
