Thanks Marijn for the breakdown on what this was. I was a bit confused, but once in 3 years is pretty important event!

I want to ask Nanond: you posted an update with the water, how did you tackle it? Especially the bit of water ingressing into the hull? Why not resin to show some depth? Will you simulate oil leaking or there was non by that point and paining oil film is very tricky proposition? I have many questions. I think your water thus far is very nicely looking up!

And it has been 5 years now, as the planned date of juli 2020 had to be postponed for obvious reasons... The last one was in Chicago in 2017.
So everyone is stoked it is finally taking place!

The water will be covered with acrylic gel. I was trying the same method used by Marijn. I have no experience with clear resin but I might try it next time. From what I've seen, I feel the depth seen with clear resin is a bit too much for this scale, but I can be wrong here. I did not plan to have an oil slick on the surface. I tried painting the water surface with darker colors to show what might be underwater. It is yet to be seen how successful I am at that.

Yeah, I tend to agree, you're correct on scale and going against resin. I will follow your build with interest as Kure wrecks are also a bit of an obsession of mine (and I discussed that at length prior with Marijn). Id love to add to the trio with Haruna which now sits and waits its hour but afraid it is too much for me currently with my skill level on water.

I'm happy to announce the completion of my 1:700 IJN Aoba. Here are some pics of the completed model.
I was able to enter her to the 11th World Model Expo in Eindhoven, last week, where the model was awarded a silver medal in the ship master class.

Thank you for following my progress all these years. See you on my next project.

Nanond

It was really nice to see the model in real life at Veldhoven, to bad I missed meeting you. The detail on the model is really stunning.

Congratulations on your medal! I saw this in person at Eindhoven and was quite impressed.

Magnificently rendered hull damage. Well done. If you're looking for similar subjects, 100 years ago Scapa Flow was full of Imperial German scrap metal - some of it's still there.
