Some amazing painting :woo_hoo: Magnificently-painted and weathered launch, guns and details. Acrylics?

Thanks. They're not weathered yet, it's just base colour with wash applied. All painted with Tamiya acrylics and washed with oils. Here is some before and after wash on bow part of the hull:

I don't know who came up with the idea that you have to go to work, it just makes modeling so much more difficult.... :cool_2:

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I'm kind of evolving this way of painting rivetted hulls on my last few ships.

Great work! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

How did you do the weathering of the lower hull? Sponge technique?

No Martin, it's tamiya buff, hairspray and old toothbrush technique. After that three different green watercolor pencils.

Thanks!
Hairspray technique may be the best choice indeed: easier to work with more transparent layers, and easier to get a random effect (sponge can look a bit repetitive if one is not careful). In any case, your results look great! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Thanks.
Hairspray method also creates texture of all that stuff that grows under the waterline and slows everything down

Ship itself is nearly finished, just a few insignificant details and deck. But first I have to have a go at the planes....

Small technical question. Has anyone seen a picture of Langley, after conversion to a seaplane tender, with the main elevator down? Was it still operable? were they using it?  I thought it'd look nice with it on the way up or down with a Seagull on it, but have no idea if it was still in use.
HELP ;)

Interesting tidbit here.

I've always wondered why the USN stuck their small boats inside the hangar areas. Now, well, I think I see that it is simply tradition.

If the small boat placement here is correct on your model (and I'm certain that you've got it in the right spot - I'm not questioning that at all!) then having small boats/gigs/launches stored in the hangar spaces of a USN Aircraft carrier started with the USS Langley, and seems to continue to this day.

Interesting.
