I am in the process of converting the gunze 1/350 Lusitania to Mauretania, having her in her full dazzle battledress.
Its been interesting to say the least so far.
I have contacted several members on here and sought their guidance on how to convert the original kit. It has taken a while to decipher the correct (ish) colour scheme, the right amount of lifeboats and various other bits.
here are the pictures of my progress so far

I initially started off doing the life rafts, of which they where 24. I have made a mould out of plaster of 5 modified lifeboats, then cast them out of resin.
This has taken some 5 weeks as i initially decided to make the mould out of latex, but this was utter pants, so I decided on plaster. I also though of casting them out of lead, but again this didn't work, so I settled on resin, which has worked

Whilst this was occurring, i had a scout around for ideas how to do the deck.
When i did my original Lusitania model, i simply painted them one block colour, but since then i have decided to go for a different approach,
I looked at this article http://titanic-model.com/articles/article7/article7.htm
an decided to use the wood planking method, which so far looks good on the forecastle deck I have made .
(again see picture when its inserted)

Well there has been a little progress. I have reshaped the anchor housings on the bow, reshaped the stern to give a much more rounded appearence and given the rudder its little flick as head heads towards the props.
I am adjusting the whole front of the superstructure, to give it a more inline appearence, compared to Lusitania's stepped front and I have found some brass props that are the right size.
More importantly I have managed to get two new spruces from Gunze, so I now have a full set of life boats, collapsiables, matching davits and spares for a few other bits.
I have also got some 80 odd life lines for the lifeboats and rafts from the delightful Loren of gold medal models.
So everything is coming together very nicely.

I have decided that instead of planking the entire decks, I have ordered several sheets of ready made decking sheets, which I can cut to size and pop on as well. I decided to go with a slightly weathered look to the decks, just to add to it really.

I'll post pictures soon, when I have the time to faff round uploading them and linking them to here. (Utter faff and it initially put me off this site, but perseverance has won)
