Hello,

As my Tribal is over, this time, my project will be Roma battleship.

red lower hull has to be stiffened, and slightly widened (a bit forced) because upper hull part is +- 1 mm wider than below part between lets say the secondary turrets front and aft.

for the frontmost and rearmost hull parts, I scratched away the inner stiffeners to be able to add flexibility to make parts join correctly.

some details to redo are scrapped away.

note that anchor hole on hull part still needs some enlargement.

and already, some surgery. rear bulkhead of reardeck needs corrections.

anchor holes widened, and interior blackened. that will do the trick.

hull halves glued together, and filed flush.

small rudders need to be relocated a bit, so locator hole is filled.

Nice work thus far. I would like to do a 1/350 Roma at some point in the future so will be following your build of her with interest.

She was such a beautiful ship.

thank you !

by the way, hull join has been puttied, sanded, puttied again at some places.
then, when I was relatively satisfied, I primed this evil red plastic with Mr surfacer 1000 (in spray can). first time i do that in 25 years of shipmodelling !
after 2 or 3 small zones lightly sanded and primed again, I am pretty happy with result. I will use this again now, each time I will have to deal with this strange red part...

and some work on secondaries :

I discarded Eduard parts for gun tubs, as there was too much work for not a so much better aspect, and as the tub entrance was too wide with replacement photoetch contour.
barrels are basically those from RB models. pretty nice and not expensive.
some camo needed, and after that, small ladders to add.

by the way, I noticed that hull plating is largely overdone.

it means some additional work and puttying, and sanding... ouch. :mad_1:

wooden deck will be placed later, to avoid damage. happy I didnt placed it too early, as this hull plates work would have left damage, and I wouldn't be able to spray surfacer 1000 again...

some work on main superstructure : a lot of big vents and various deck equipment to remove and replace with eduard photoetch.

there are differences between inbox features, eduard features (a big step forward, however), and features seen on Barbieri's model (confirmed by most photos and by most italian modelling sites).
so some mistakes are to be corrected : some photoetch box vents are to be relocated, some new box vents to be created in scratch, add 3-4 mushroom vents, small deck apparatus to scrap away and replace in scratch.

as you see, for now, I am just in the cut/scrap/file/putty/sand/... phase. thankless task...

Thank you !

I will ask when I would be in need of an information case by case.

I also found a lot of stuff on various italian build logs.

some totally scratchbuilt apparatus at the base of the rear tower, thanks to Barbieri's model which is a great informational source.

those apparatus are needed for future crane rigging.

be warned : Eduard photoetch splinter shield replacement for parts D4/D5 is a nightmare !!! :mad_2:

It was really hard to achieve something credible, and the result is not really good. not worth the effort at all :

I sent an email to trumpeter parts service to eventually buy fret D replacement.
if this adress and service still exists, I will get back to original parts.

Mister me, can i suggest you to use thin plasticard (0.15-0.25 mm) to replace the splinter shield? it's more manageable than the pe, and it can be glued per section with extra thin plastic cement while forcing it to copy the varius rounded contours.
i did it on my looong term KGV build, i have only this picture on my work pc.
