I was so impressed with it i just couldn't stop myself from building it, i didn't have alot of materials to begin with but then i remembered i bought WEM's Sasebo color a while back and while i was doing my research i noticed Kongo's last refit took place right there in Sasebo this was either luck or something i had planned before ,anyways, with some p.e leftovers from previous builds, Tamiya's tape and a few other things i began this project. today i ordered some other things i'll be using later on.

Looks good so far Jose :thumbs_up_1:

By the way, don't forget to erase the roundtable on the second aft most casemate guns (port and stbd). It has been discussed here http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=30051&start=180 .

cheers

Thanks Gilbert! i see what you mean now about casemate #7, few books i got here doesn't show it either.

I want to take back something i wrote on my last post. Kongo's last refit didn't take place at Sasebo, it took place at Kure ( all accordind to Kongo's TROM on the Combinedfleet website) however the time she spent at Kure was much, much less in contrast to the time she spent at Sasebo. japanese worked fast in upgrading all these vessels but painting the entire ship in a week is unlikely in my opinion i'll stick with Sasebo color. any thoughts are appreciate it.

Well, Jose, her last refit was mainly gunnery and radar equipment. According to Nihon Kaigun website, "Kure Naval Yard. A Type 22 surface search/gunnery control radar set and Type 13 radars are fitted on the bridge and the mainmast respectively. Seventy-six 25mm AA guns (twelve triple and forty single mounts) are installed..." . According to John Snyder booklet "IJN Greys", her last painting was in Kure Grey. Her previous painting was done in Sasebo in 03-1943. Due to japanese paint poor quality, I think her looking was'nt good in July 1944 and she has to be repainted. However, I agree with you on the fact that 8 days for an overall painting is quite a challenge. But, she stayed at Lingga for quite a long time afterwards. We know she "embarked materials" at Kure. Therefore, IMHO, it seems possible some Kure Grey paint was embarked and painting was finished in Lingga.
Therefore, if you want to keep Sasebo Grey on the ship, no problem, but it should be very faded :heh: and Radar and additionnal guns should be in Kure grey, or it's up to you to select an overall new Kure Grey

The choice is yours

That's very probable Gilbert and it changes my entire hand of poker  if i keep her with Sasebo color i won't be able to add any of the radars and i'd like to have the Type 22 radar fitted same goes for all the aa guns. this really puts me in a corner now ( first time this happens :lol_4: i never really payed any attention at the paint until now). thing is i've done some real good progress on the pagoda and if i decide to change the whole thing i'll end up paying a high price for sure. i guess... faded Sasebo sounds good to me. thanks again

Here are some shots I took minutes ago. I finished adding little details to the aft structure i also finished painting all 4 turrets didn’t take any pics of them though. i’m not getting a good illumination from 2 glazed light bulbs i bought recently. For some reason all my pics are coming yellowish. Thus there is a question i want to ask you and i’ll be eternally grateful to any of you, what’s the best light bulb to take pictures with? TIA

For lighting, try using a daylight cfl (compact flouresent lamp) They have a better color 'temperature' for daylight. Here's a link for photo cfl replacement lights:

http://www.alzodigital.com/online_store ... _lamps.htm

Or, some cameras can adjust the white balance.

Or, if you have a graphics program, that can adjust your images somewhat. That is what I used for your image below.

Doc: Last time i dropped by Home Depot i saw these:

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... 3+10401001

i grabbed the package in my hand and then i said to myself " no they are not going to do" aftewards, i bought the glazed ones with 200 W i guess i screwed it up big time and the moral of the story is " don't go for the highest watts"

J.,

If you look under the specification tab on the link you provided for the cfl bulbs, the one listed there has a color temperature of 2700 kelvin.

You need a color temp of 5500 kelvin for daylight color. Look at the spec tab for this bulb:
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... 001+502955

I forgot to add I like what you've done with your model!

Doc

Thanks again Doc! i'll make sure of grabbing the correct ones this time.

Dan: she is getting there Dan  you probably noticed a couple of missing things ,these i ordered last week hopefully i'll get them by the end of this one. i was thinking about scratchbuilding the binoculars just like i did on my Fuso but i thought about something else. i bought Flyhawk's binocular set from a picture i saw it looked to me to be pretty complete now lets just hope it's not as tedious to work with as those Lionroar P.E MG, i doubt it though :heh: . BTW, Thanks!

Hey guys

This is not much of an update i just want to show you the lighting difference with these 2 light bulbs i bought and also ask a question to the IJN experts, check last pic please. I figured there has to be some sort of an entrance into the rear structure that’s why i added the p.e door but i’ve got no proof to prove such thing. What was the purpose of it? It looks to me like Fuso’s and Yamashiro’s the only thing is, this one from Kongo’s is not entirely covered and... if this is the case then i'm guessing it was there for the optic equipment right? binoculars ? any help will be appreciated

Thanks Bob, no they are not. these are the ones that came with the kit i've seen FineMold's MGs and those look way tastier than these. i'm still impressed with these though if you get them closer to the ones from the leviathan sprues, you'll see a much, much, much better improvement.

Hi Jose,

Yes, there is such an entrance. If you own the Shipcraft book "Kongo class battlecruisers", go to pages 38 and 39 and you will clearly notice the door and 3 binoculars on the platform. Pictures from Fujimi 1/350 Kongo as in 1944.

cheers

Gilbert

thanks

Jose

Quite simply, images and files hosted on the forum server (stuff that you upload via the Upload Attachment tool) are viewable only by registered members. Guests can only view stuff that's hosted on an external server, such as Photobucket, Imageshack, or Tinypic.

I'm not sure when it was implemented, but I guess it's fairly new and a part of the new anti-spam processes.
