This afternoon turned out warm (60's) and a good day for working on the shed. Between touching up siding paint on and around the porch, finishing the boat house beam/hook, and putting insulation in place, I also managed to completely frame and install a side window. With only a short piece ov PVC Brickmold to buy, I'll have the exterior window treatment finished tomorrow. Then, back to insulation work. Here's todays progress:

Tomorrow should be in the low 70s and in spite of light showers, should be a good day to get more interior work completed.

Looking real good, Hank!! But I'm wondering that with all this working with building materials and construction and stuff, do you remember how to build models? You do realize, don't you, that you don't use caulk and construction adhesive when building ship models!

Hank, Just curious are you going to hang Red and Green running lights to the front porch posts?

Added the block & tackle in case nosey pirates or smart-assed ship modelers start pointing or making atrocious comments. :cool_1:

Love that block and tackle.

Just needs a jackstaff and the Jolly Roger to be complete. Oh, and the running lights.

Today saw interior work in the form of cutting donated paneling and a bit of rearranging and insulation cleanup. Here's the back wall:

Tomorrow a.m. is expected rain, so a Lowe's run and some other errands. Maybe some further paneling work in the p.m. After checking over the orig. 4"x1" trim boards that were in the trailer for the dump, I salvaged several and will use them for the interior window frames. Just a bit of belt sanding and cutting to size - why waste them?

Thanks Tom!
Speaking of light - I managed to get the inside trim around the back window done today (almost an all-day job); once the materials on hand had been used up (and I don't have a table saw, so no ripping here!), I made a Lowe's run and finished the task. I'm also in good shape for trimming out the side window once the paneling is in place. So, today's progress:
Attachment:
Resized Back Window Trim_1.jpg
Resized Back Window Trim_1.jpg [ 85.41 KiB | Viewed 854 times ]

I've also temporarily put the lattice-work back in place on the right side of the bldg. and will probably re-set neater in a week or so. Have a new yard guy coming next week (the deck on my 22 yr. old lawn tractor is SHOT! and I'll put the whole thing on the web for sale cheap!) to do the yard mowing and didn't want the lattice pieces laying all over. Tomorrow will hopefully see the paneling up and around the side window, etc. "Hopefully"!!!

DavidP - No, I don't think so, although the picture does look like it, doesn't it? I've locked up for the evening, but I'll check it in the a.m. as it seems that everyone is going nowhere tomorrow....right?

David - the sash & trim are fine, no bow, but thanks for asking!!

Today, after a short run to Lowe's & grocery store I got the last of my donated paneling in place and the side window trimmed out. Once again, I'm using available wood on hand so some of this looks a bit "shanty", but if I can get away with piecing together salvaged or scraps of things rather than buying new, I'm doing it. Tomorrow may be a "see if the landfill is open" day and if so, I'll take over a trailer load of rotted & unusable scrap lumber and then probably stop off at Lowe's and buy more paneling to continue that part of the interior work. Here's today's effort:
Attachment:
Resized Side Window Trim_1.jpg

One other decision to make is whether to buy lathe strips to put between the paneling sheets or mix up a batch of Durham Rock Hard plastic wood filler and fill in & sand smooth these joints. I already have a fresh tin of Durham's powdered filler and I'm leaning in that direction. Once hard, it is ROCK hard and a belt sander will smooth out the joint for painting. I don't intend for this to look like a ladies powder room, but I would like it to look half way decent!

Since The Plague has begun, I've not been out to the shop on a routine basis. Mainly, until today when it was nice, sunny & warm, it has been rather damp & cold here - not exactly enthusiastic weather in which to work. I've been doing interior wall paneling in a clockwise direction starting in the back (as shown in prior posts) and have now gotten around to the inside front wall. Hopefully, tomorrow will see that continue while also beginning to plant seeds in the raised bed gardens. You realize that Victory Gardens are important in our War against the Chromdomo Virus!! :doh_1: :Tirade:

I did, however, get installed the Americana Emblem on the porch front and set a new eyebolt for the pulley & hook:

So, tomorrow I'll try to get a couple shots of the current state of affairs inside the shop as things progress!

Stay well & stay home!

Hank

Well, I have made some small progress inside the shop. I've gotten the front wall insulation and some of the paneling in place. Tomorrow a.m. will be placement of the first panel on the left side with a narrow panel to be cut to finish the front wall. As I have not been able to find a reasonable priced salvage porthole to insert in the front wall YET (I'm stressing Y-E-T!!!), I framed the stud wall for a future insert, took detailed dimensions so I can cut out the paneling when this time arrives. So, here are a couple shots of the front wall and left corner where I will begin work tomorrow:
Attachment:

Attachment:

In the 2nd photo (above) the 4x8 panel leaning against the front wall is the one that will go in the insulated area of the wall leaving a 20" wide section to be filled with a 20" wide piece cut from a std. sheet. This must look all very convoluted (and it is!!!) but I'm constantly moving things around in order to get to the next area that needs work.

I hope to get to the opposite side of the shop Wed. and begin sanding puttied joints all around, painting with flat wall paint/primer rolled on before doing any further paneling on the current side. I will also add in the needed trim around edges, windows, door, etc. This way I can then begin to vacuum, clean up, and move "STUFF" over to the side that has been finished. Make sense? Theoretically, it does to me, too!!! :doh_1:

Moving the stuff is probably the worst part of the whole thing. I hope when you are done there is at least a corner available for modeling!

Good thing you don't live in Michigan, the governor has made it illegal to buy garden supplies and seeds. Wonder if they will use aerial surveillance to apprehend those criminal victory gardeners.

Keep up the good work!

Hank:

Living in a warm climate, are you going to put insulation in the ceiling and maybe a fan?

Tom,
Your question is quite timely!! So, here's an update as of yesterday (before the storms came thru N.C.):

I actually finished stapling insulation batts to the underside of the loft flooring in the back of the bldg. This area is 8' deep x 16' wide, so about a third of the overall floor size of the shed. I to plan to put ceiling panels up against the "A" frame created by the 2x6 roof joists and 2x6 cross braces and lay insulation strips on top of the panels as I work towards the back. I plan to leave an approx. 4' wide open area in front of the loft for access, so I will end the ceiling panels even with the closest "A" frame and close it off. One other phase of work yesterday was rolling out the last 2 ceiling panels with white primer in order to dry for (hopefully) today's installation. I also rolled primer around the right back side and am working forward as I get panel joints sanded ahead of me. Of course, this is all within the confines of moving "stuff" as I go around the bldg. Luckily, I have more than enough donated insulation on hand to do the entire shed!

Last week I got an estimate for re-roofing the bldg. and after consulting a few building/construction friends of mine see that as a very fair estimate - I intend to have this done sometime in early summer, if possible.

OK, time to feed the cat (again!)…

Hank

what do you mean "again", don't you leave food down for it all the time?

:doh_1: I see this will require an explanation -
Ever since Smokey was a small kitten, we have had to "show" him his food bowl or he simply wanders around meowing at us for not paying him attention (or feeding him). I don't know why, and he doesn't accept Request Chits!! Just the way it is.

So, at 2am (could be any hour, on the hour!) with his bowl pretty much full, but just perhaps a smidgen of white showing thru the dry food bits, he starts by getting me out of bed (low, short, sharp meows meaning "Get the H#%% Up!!!") and going into the sunroom and putting a few morsels of dry food in his bowl in order to hide this "hole" in the food. And this will be repeated several times during the early morning hours until around 6am when he's established his Lordship back on the front room couch, laying so that one eye is just partially cracked meaning "Don't bother me, A$#Hole, I'm sleeping now!!!"

Hank:

Looks pretty convincing, what scale is this project? Amazing what one can do in 1:1.

That aside I roofed my workshop and then the house with metal. As simple as your shed is it would be pretty easy. The metal roofing cuts easily with a diamond blade in a circular saw, if sounding a little like cats being strangled.

Most of the snow is gone, maybe 25% left, leaves next week?

Keep up the good work! Tom
