Thanks guys . I need all the encouragement i can get at the moment . It will be 5 years next month and i want to get it finished and get started on something new . Although that shall probably take ages as well

I have been stressing out over the 25 foot fast motorboats for ages ! In the end i decided to use the Trumpeter hulls and scratch build the uppers to the drawing found in the Hood anatomy book .

Image

But they are wrong ! I resonantly noticed a picture in Bruce Taylors Hms Hood an Illustrated Biography which shows the side of the 25 footers and i think they are the same as the ones shown in the belfast anatomy book . Oh well back to the drawing board !!

Indeed. And, take a close look at the 35ft fast motor boats in the AOTS Belfast before starting on those for Hood; also the same :eyebrows:

This is some lovely work. Unfortunately, it has put me off the kit.

Regards, Dave

I have been obsessed by lack of information and photos online of the Admiralty 25 foot fast motorboat, but the other day came across this . And then to find it is only 70 miles away, talk about hiding under my nose  .

Jesus!!! :-)

Seeing now your 4inch guns and taking comparsion to my on HMS Warspite ... well ... this is not only another world you are building in, this is an other galaxy! My deep respect and makes me motivating to go in closer details on next projects, because it shows again what is possible to do! :-)

The generational build goes on .

I have been having a bad time using pre bought PE with a mixture of scratch building and Trumpeters guess ??
All seems a compromise . Look at the voice pipes going to the air lookout platform.
Image

They are incorrect in where they route! Also the bridge windows are to tall ! I have had lots of trouble matching trumpeters moldings with drawings .. And to be honest ,artistic license .

Anyway,onwards and upwards. Literally  :wave_1:

Interesting solution with the ladder going to the air defense platform :thumbs_up_1: I thought a ladder when down from these smaller wings, but your solution actually makes a lot of sense. I added a pic where you can imagine a ladder going down, but that's the best I have! Perhaps I'll change to a stair as well...

Hi again

I have not been modeling for a while, Too much sun and things :cool_1: .. But anyway decided to work on my Hood a bit. Best to tackle something simple to get back into the swing of things i thought..

So here are the ensign and jack staffs i scratched to replace the plastic sticks that were trumpeters offerings...

Back with a little more ...

Have been trying to sort out the little boats . There was a 45 foot motor barge carried at the time but there was not one in the kit . As it carried a 32 foot cutter in it i was a bit limited as to which of the numerous 45 foot motorboats to use ??and i had no photo evidence of what sort was carried ... Looking through my books i found 2 pictures of similar dates of 45 footer carrying what looks like 32 footers ( repulse 1939 and QE 1942). As i had nothing else to go on i decided to use that .. I used the hull of the 45 ft rowing barge that came with the kit and modified it ..

Image

Now the 42 foot motor barge which i think is very similar ??

Edit ::: Just took some measurements which reveals this boat to be about 41 foot , so i shall use it as the 42 footer. I will steel a hull from my repulse kit that measures correctly for the 45 footer ..

A BIG ""DOH"" :doh_1:

HMS Hood is to me perhaps the most beautiful warship ever!

Yes, what Stein said - great attention to detail. Keep at it, she is going to be a show stopper when finished.
