Hi guys,

Ever since the Kamizukuri Yamato dock came out in 1/700 i just had to have it…. finaly they were no longer a Shizouka show special, and they are available to the gerneral public.

thanks to a friend in Japan I finaly got my hands on one, and am very pleased with it….

Here a picture of the set (in progress)

Of course in researching the Yamato dock, i found this set in 1/3000 from Fujimi

Allthough i love the set from Fujimi and i am going to finnish it, I also decided to try an make this portion (and more) in 1/700 scale.

So i did some searching on the net and found the Sculpfun S9 lasercutter… an affordable one and it looked very promising. So i finaly ordered one and it arrived a week ago….. with this lasercutter i can make my own buildings wanted to incorporate the Kamizukuri Yamato dock in the bigger diorama.

However i found that the Kamizukuri dock, although a great model, is pretty inaccurate, so i started to build my own Yamato dock, based on the areal pictures that exist on the Kure Dockyard….

I know, it’s a pretty big job, but i will show my progress regularly !

So , of any of you have more info / pictures on the Kure dockyards, I would be most thankfull !!

Soon some pictures of the first test builds in cardboard

Tom

This looks like an amazing project. I will be following this. Do you know if the ever produced a 1/350 version of the dock?

They didn’t make a version of this in 1/350 scale, but hey, you know, i could scale this up from 1/700 to 1/350 of course…… :)

Working on the big building of the Yamato dock…. OMG, it is sooooo fragile, i hop i can make it work!!

Looking at the pictures if have to rebuild it from scratch i suppose, but for the time being i took the Kamizukuri building and adapted it, so that it is a little smaller compared to the kamizukuri building (which is too wide….)

Hope you like it….

Hello guys……

Time for an update on the Kure project…. I can tell you , it is a hell of a job , but somebody has to do it

I’ve been working on and off on the project, but it took a long time studying pictures, trying to get the proportions right, etc etc, trial and error.

Anyway, time for some pictures

I managed to finish the big yamato building, only to find out that the design was wrong…. :(

Soooooo back to the drawing board it was……..

Thank god the building still exists, so there were plenty of pictures how it looks like today….. and i was able to create a new building….. let the pictures do the talking…..
