Getting started on the Big E. This will be pretty much OOB with the exception of a few corrections. I'm using GMM's PE set and their elevator platforms. I've attached the bow portion and glued the flight deck sections.

If anyone has used the elevator platforms I could use some help with the installation process. I'm not sure just how much of the old elevator platforms to remove or if I have to completely build new support beams and side walls. I need pics of the process. :wave_1:

Check out the following build by a czech modeller. He's back dating the kit but the linked page shows his elevator undersides. Might be a bit much detail than your looking for but it's worth a look (As is the rest of the WIP)

Finally received all my Evergreen products to start work on the hangar bays. I don't have the luxury of a local hobby shop anymore. :heh:
I decided to do a full hangar deck but with less aircraft than my Nimitz.

Here's another great build:

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_su ... 31782.aspx

I don't know anything about the kit or real ship so I don't know how accurate they are but his elevators look great!

Have a client wanting a Big E so I figured I would pull this one off the shelf and continue this build thread. Only minor changes and GMM PE, scratched hangar bays. Will be 90's era.

This sure is beautiful - there are no words to explain crispy modelling techniques being applied - keep up the good work going. Will continue to following this thread!

Thanks guys. Doug, compared to your Big E, this is a lego kit, but thanks. Can't wait to see your ship finished. Still so much to do to the island. Finished more on the mast but it needs fine tuned, I hate PE work but it's such a necessity. The GMM set for the Big E is a bit disappointing. I almost scrapped it and went with the kit mast parts but I can make these work with a bit of tweaking. Anyway, moving on...

That's very neat. The radars in particular look fantastic.

I like the black glossy windows. It's very hard to get the right look otherwise. Or is it dark tinted?

I actually built the enterprise once and placed the Pe yardarms on the plastic parts. They didn't look too bad. Probably my first attempt at Pe.

Thanks for checking out my E guys. The radars turned out "OK", I have a few spare PE radar sets I may do these over. As for the yard arm,it's "acceptable". I guess the White Ensign brass set has better details for this. Live and learn. As for the windows, heh, those are just openings right now, they do look blacked out in the pics though. My plan is to use Tamiya clear green and Formula 560 to make clear green tinted windows that are characteristic on the bridge. I keep breaking off the antenna on the bride so I will sacrifice a couple brass ones from a couple detail sets for other ships. Also, I have started the rigging process, keeping it thin and to scale makes it very difficult. I use watch maker magnifying glasses to actually tie the line to the structure. This stuff is so thin I can barely see it but that's what I prefer, I see too many rigged ships with shoe string thick rigging and can ruin a good effort. Anyway, off my soapbox. Moving on...
