I started in January and I am moving slowly forward. I am using the excellent (and available) MK-1 design PE. I have also ordered some parts form http://www.modelschlachtschiffe.de (cooling water inlets, boat booms, ..). The searchlights are LED equipped and there is some insode lighting. I apologize for some incorrect colors and maybe some other "non gospel" items and arrangements. I realize that this is "my" model of the Bismarck and for me the building is fun and not an acurate recreation of this beautiful ship on a specific day under specific weather conditions.

Regarding accuracy: Who cares? You paid for the kit and look to have a great start. The superstructre you've posted looks awesome. |

Der Fuehrer is displeased with your apparent lack of effort to portray the Fatherland's glorious vessel as he, in his masterful mind intended it. Most Excellent work! The cult of crazy 1/200 Bismarck builders may have forgotten how to have fun with this project but that doesn't mean you have to. |

That's how I see it! Even if somebody recreates everything perfectly, it is still too small by a factor of 200 and 72 years too late. It is all about fun, and fun only!

STOP APOLOGIZING, DIETRICH! Simply adopt the viewpoint that YOUR Bismarck is at the center of the Bismarck universe...after all, you're pouring your blood, sweat, and tears into it, literally! Welcome to the world of builders who've rediscovered their creative childhood and are having a blast! You're right...too much doctrinal rigidity kills the fun! Some commentators don't have an "internal child" left to play with...so, unfortunately, they're never going to understand us...nor, thankfully, will we ever understand them. |

You're doing a nice job on this kit. I don't fault those who wish to correct every flaw, but you're proving that this beauty of a kit can produce a museum piece OOB. Fine work so far. I traded mine but someday I'll pick up another. |

Fine work so far. I traded mine but someday I'll pick up another. Truth!! This is a fantastic kit... I have it and the KA set on my shelf. Im really enjoying watching these first builds of this beast... Will be at least 2 years before I can start mine as Im rigging Hellers 1/100 HMS Victory and then plan to do my beloved old home away from home Trumpys 1/350 USS Nimitz as she looked for her 1977-78 med cruise with CAG 8 |

Nice work indeed Dietrich!!! I think you win the "Best so far" medal. How did the aircraft PE from the Ka kit fit? Please tell us all how you fitted, (Stuck) the Decal to the wooden deck? I have also ordered the Model Schlachteshiffe PE but have not received it yet? I hear the German PE grilles are larger than the Trumpeter grilles moulded into the hull? I'll give you one guess who got it wrong!! I'm still plugging away on the Arizona hull, but might get back on the Bismarck as soon as the German PE arrives. I really want to cut some holes in the hull to depict inlets and outlets. Keep us all postsed on your beautiful work Dietrich. |

Thanks a lot to the posters for you nice and encouraging words. Really appreciated! NigelR32 wrote: Please tell us all how you fitted, (Stuck) the Decal to the wooden deck? It is no decal! The red is painted, leaving a circle of correct size ( little smaller) free with the planks. The white circle with the swastika is printed on my printer in the correct size on thin paper, cut out, and glued with thinned Elmer's to the planks. The whole thing is then covered with flat finish. I would not dare a decal....Quote: I have also ordered the Model Schlachteshiffe PE but have not received it yet? I've fitted the german PE grills, they are bigger but they look great when on. I'm an average modeller (in fact I've only used an air brush on 4 kits and PE on 2 kits so in this regards I'm a novice. Was really easy to fit the grills, I attached them on the outside of the hull and they look great. Just finishing paining my hull, used rattle cans as it's so big. Really pleased with it so far. Just cut out the stairs in the deck ready for PE stairs and a bigger spade so it looks more realistic. This is only my secnd ever ship kit and I'm hooked, can't wait for the next 1/200 offering, what ever it is ! ta neil |

Plotting along and not giving up. Having huge fun building it! And taking time! Structures are of course not glued together and the LED cables need to be soldered to the interior switches. But that comes some time down the road. Dietrich

Hi Jason, it is really not ambition - it is more time and available space and place. I am working from home and I have a room for the hobby. So I can put in an hour here and there if I want to. And I love ships and the Bismarck in specific! Dietrich
