Hey guys,

I have just reached a major milestone in my diorama fleet. I have been working on several vessels over the past few weeks and I have also been making several castings as well. I have totaled up how many vessels I have now and I am just jaw dropped over what has been accomplished.

My total of kits on hand and most are completed as well:

United States Navy: 485
JMSDF: 83
Great Britain: 31
Russian: 226

All these together total up: 825

I am running a test on the pictures I have been trying to post and I am hoping that this is going to work.

Yes, it has finally worked, These are some of the resin castings I have made of the Russian Victor Class, I am going to be getting the rest of the pictures done and get them posted. Sorry it has taken so darn long to get something to show. Thanks to everyone for your understanding.

Also, I have been building a ton of aircraft for the diorama and in the past week I have built some 75 aircraft of various types and I am going to be getting these primed and painted in the week to come, hopefully weather permitting.

Hi there everyone,

Well I think I have everything figured out as far as getting the pictures sized correctly for the forum, unfortunately I was not happy with the quality of the pictures I took and I am going to retake them today and get them sized and posted this evening or tomorrow at the latest.

I was grounded by the wife from working at the workbench for the past couple of days after having several leg spasms from my burn injuries a few years back. I was not allowed to do anything and was stuck in the bed with my brace on so I was not able to get any pictures redone, but today is another story, I am having a better day today and I feel like getting new pictures is a real possibility.

The picture I had done earlier looked good on my phone but when I down loaded them too the computer they appeared to be fuzzy more then I would have liked or would have been acceptable. I know what I had done wrong in taking the pictures and I will not make the same mistake again. So, therefore I am going to be working on pictures today and get the best quality I can and get them on the site before everyone who follows this topic keelhauls me rearend. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

There are more pictures but I guess I need to work on re-sizing them more for the forum, these are the only ones that fit the size limits at this time. I will get the rest finished and posted.

In the ZUBR Class LCAC's I need to finish casting the deck guns for these, I ran out of resin and the store is currently out as well.

Well today is another day of fun in the ol' slipway. I have just finished redoing the pictures and I am having them loaded to my laptop this evening and get them resized for the forum. I was taking stock in what I have going on with all the different builds and such, all the casting yet to be done and where I am with everything at the moment. Currently I have SEVERAL project going on all at the same time and I feel a bit overwhelmed at the moment. This is a current list of what is "IN PROGRESS" waiting to be completed.

1. (14) DELTA III CLASS SSBN's - all cast, awaiting final assembly, primer and paint.
2. (7) DELTA IV CLASS SSBN's - all cast, awaiting final assembly, primer and paint.
3. (4) LEBED CLASS LCAC's - all cast, awaiting primer and paint.
4. (6) AIST CLASS LCAC's - all cast, awaiting final assembly, primer and paint.
5. (18) NANCHUKA I CLASS CORVETTE's - main hull's cast, small assembly parts ready, awaiting final assembly, primer and paint.
6. (15) NANCHUKA III CLASS CORVETTE's - main hull's cast, small assembly parts ready, awaiting final assembly, primer and paint.
7. (16) OSA I CLASS MISSLE BOAT's - all cast, awaiting final assembly, primer and paint.
8. (17) OSA II MISSLE BOAT's - all cast, awaiting final assembly, primer and paint.
9. (20) VIRGINIA CLASS SSN's (Blocks 1, 2, 3) - all cast and awaiting finish work (sanding & clean up) primer and paint.
10. (1) NEWPORT CLASS LST - earlier stages of construction. (Orange Hobbies - Blue Series Resin Kit)

This is an additional 118 vessels for the project, I am in the process of getting these finished up and feel comfortable with having these completed in the next couple of weeks, with the exception of the NANCHUKA CLASS's as I have to scratch build the main mast for these and everyone knows scratch building takes time. All the builds I have been doing over the past couple of months are what I would say is 95% complete, I have to do all the decal work on several of them and honestly the decals are hard to get around here and on line at the moment. So, I am getting everything done as much as possible to the decal stage, which in my build practices is the final stage in my builds.

The biggest hold up on the decals is hull numbers and getting them is the design for several countries. I would try to make them myself but I can not print "WHITE" :censored_2: I know that white is done in a screen print type of printing and I do not have that capability.
As well as having enough numbers of the same type. I am hopeful that after the new year I can get more of what is needed to finish up the decals.

I have recently got all the previous builds for storage and viewed most all of them and some are damaged and will need to be repaired and some are going to be replaced. I am not discouraged at the repair work ahead of me but it is a bit frustrating to have to rework completed kits. Anyway, things are getting together and completed as much as possible and I am looking forward to the new year and all that it holds in store for this project.

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their projects as much as I am enjoying mine.

OK I am completely frustrated trying to get these damn pictures to size to the limits set for the forum, every time I crop the picture it is still to big and this is getting very frustrating trying to make them work so here is what I have got to fit so far and I am going to stop for the night before I break my computer because its about to fly across the room and smash into a wall

This is my current new project, it's the Orange Hobbies NEWPORT CLASS LST-1179, I am actually building this as the USS RACINE LST-1191 as that was the ship my dad was the original PLANK OWNER of. He was actually the first person assigned to the ship before it was ever built.

This project is also the most photo etch work I have ever done on a 1/700 scale ship, truthfully I am not that good at photo etch work but I gotta learn it some how. I actually have 3 of these kits and this is the first go at working on one and so far I am pretty pleased with the results. The diagrams and drawings for the kit are pretty good but some areas are a bit questionable.

I have been following some tips from some of our fellow builders on the forum and I must say their tips are very helpful, thanks guys. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

The work you see in the pictures are from today after a 10 hour session. I hope everyone likes the progress so far and I hope to have more to show soon. As always comments and questions are always welcome.

Well today is another day for me in the slipway, I plan on continuing on the USS RACINE LST-1191, I have some more minor details to add to the bow boom and then I plan on moving to the main super structure and get things going there. I will post more pictures of the progress later. I am actually enjoying this build even though it has a ton of PE to bring out the details, personally I think Orange Hobbies has done one hell of a job with this kit. It is a far cry from the old JAG offering. I'm just glad I waited as long as I did to build this one so I had time to improve on my PE skills, which are by far poor at best.

Also, if anyone else has built this kit before can you help me figure out why there are two parts D-1 & E-7 are identical but numbered differently, or am I overlooking so small detail on them to determine which I use?
Any help understanding this would be helpful.

Well having to adjust the pictures on the fly, I finally got them loaded up, as you can see I have replaced the piping and added the hatches and grills to the main super structure, I know there seems to be a lot of CA showing around all the PE and brass work, but there is actually little CA there, I had used an old paint brush to smooth out build up of CA from attaching so many parts in such small areas, so the "shiny" area is actually pretty smooth.

I also have drilled out the port holes on the right side of the super structure as they where too shallow for the kit, I expect that with primer and paint they are going to fill in some and still be and pleasing to the eye. As far as replacing the pipe work, I used too types of brass rod, (1) .008mm and (1).010mm. I cut , shaped them as needed.

As far as my questioned I asked in the previous post I figured out why and which to use, no problem there. Now, I did encounter a problem with the top of the bridge, the open area at the top is "VERY BRITTLE" and just looking at it would break it. I did break most of it in various spots around the top and repaired it as much as possible, then I took some thin styrene and cut it to fit and glued in place, then using filler putty I smoothed it all out and finished it off with a piece of .008 brass rod shape formed to fit at the leading edge of the top. All in all it was a good day of work and I am pleased with the progress so far.

Hi, I ve been watching all the work you ve done so far and i have to say wow. I have in my collection 1048 ships built but it seems you ll have more very soon. I am amazed by the speed you re building ships. I wish i had more time to devote to ship modelling. Your thread is really inspiring. Looking forward to seeing more of your work :thumbs_up_1:

Hey Nek,

Man it's been a long time, I guess when you have all the time in the world to build ships you can crank them out pretty fast. I have developed a mass production system over the past couple of years to produce ships fast for the diorama project, if I didn't I would have needed to start this project when I was like 1 year old, :heh: :heh: As it is I started this project a little over 3 years ago and to have massed so many ships and submarines along with everything else is simply mind boggling.

I remember as a kid my mom and dad bought me a model kit of the USS LONG BEACH CGN-9 it was something like 1/426 scale, I was so excited to build it when I got home, I hurried up and put it together and started painting it, I actually had that model up till I saw like 17 years old, then mom threw it out when I left home for the U.S. Navy. Remembering how it looked and how much more I have improved in my skills makes me laugh, I am so glad I kept my desire to build models and approach things from a more "Professional" mind set.

I know that I always have room for improvement and always strive to make every kit better than the last. Like with the USS RACINE LST-1191 I am currently building, I never thought I would be brave enough to take on something with so much photo etch. I am so glad I studied, looked at others works, listened to tips for others, that I am actually making a simply nice build.

I look forward to seeing more of your work to sir, I've missed watching your build logs. Take care my friend and have a Wonderful Christmas.

Well Merry Christmas everyone,

Well first let me sat NO I did not do any work today, :heh: I spent the day with my family and eating till I nearly popped.

I did get a new kit for Christmas, and its the Canadian KINGSTON CLASS MM patrol ship, I did examine the kit and I like what I see, I am looking forward to getting this one to the slipway. Although, the wife said I have to finish everything I have on top of her deep freezer before I can start anything else new. So, yesterday I did finish building (9) DELTA III's, primed and painted them, all I have left to do is detail paint and decals.

My plan for tomorrow is to get the remaining (3) DELTA III's & (7) DELTA IV's finished up. I need to add the dive planes, prime and paint them as well. To make the dive plane process move faster I made a jig to help align the planes and set them with CA. Process works great and really speeds things up.

Once I am finished with these, I will most likely finish the (4) LEBED CLASS LCAC's, and I have (6) AIST CLASS LCAC's to finish as well.
These should move along pretty fast and be ready for primer and paint as well by the end of the day. Once I get these finished off I will move along to the remaining vessels I have on her freezer and see what can be accomplished in a rather quick fashion.

I know that the (17) NANCHUKA I CLASS & (18) NANCHUKA III CLASS will take the longest to finish as I need to scratch build all the mast structures, these classes are all cast (main hull & weapons systems) but the mast are a bit more detailed, my plan is to scratch build one and try to cast it in two parts to marry together and see how that goes for rapid construction.

I will post pictures as soon as I get more completed, and have somethin for everyone to look at.

Well good evening everyone,

I have had a slower but somewhat productive day in the slipway, I managed to finish off building the remaining DELTA III's & DELTA IV's, I also was able to prime and paint them all as well. I began working on detail paint work on the first 9 DELTA III's, that I finished on the 24th. I also got the remaining LEBED CLASS LCAC's prepped for primer and paint, I wanted to get them primed and painted as well but ran out of day light. So, I began working on the remaining AIST CLASS LCAC's, but unfortunately only 3 are really usable, so I am going to recast the remain ones later this week and get them finished up as well.

I am looking forward to getting these done and moving on to other things that require my attention. I have a ton of aircraft that need to be primed and painted. I spent a couple of weeks building aircraft of various types, and I think right now I have 75 to paint. I actually went last week and got paint to do the camo work on several of them.

I hope everyone is good and doing well, be back in touch real soon.

I have been working on getting the pictures up loaded but again its a sizing issue I am having and I am getting totally annoyed at having to damn near cut the pictures to nothing. I am going to go back tomorrow and take individual pictures of the aircraft and get them as small as I can and see if they will post. I guess that is the only way to get them to the size limits allowed.

I really hate this computer program I have for pictures and cropping them, every time I do crop them it zooms in and makes the picture to darn big. Anyway, here is what I was able to post for now.

In the pictures I have painted the aircraft and done a few different camo color designs, and I must say they look really good, it is the first time I have ever airbrushed a camo pattern on any kind of aircraft. I have also been building more aircraft as well, I have built 127 aircraft of various types and most are ready for primer and paint, which is my plan for tomorrow, to get as many primed and then start on painting them.

Anyway hope you guys like the pictures so far and I hope to have more to post for you real soon.

Well hi there everyone,
I have been working in the old slipway getting a bunch of aircraft built, I have finally managed to get a list of USN & USMC squadrons made up and from these list I will build the aircraft for the diorama, I still have several to build and I am going to be working on these again today. Last night I spent a few hours studying aircraft camo schemes and saving pictures for reference.

I have also ordered some paints for airbrushing these aircraft, I still have more to get and paints for other counties aircraft as well. I will also be ordering aircraft PE sets for the Trumpeter Aircraft set, I have several of these to get as well. I will be posting pictures soon as I get more of these completed with paint work and decals.

:woo_hoo: :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo:

Today I got a set of decals from ebay, and I am happy with these they are a set of Starfighter Decals for Modern Navy Aircraft, which I've not seen these before on their site, I am very pleased with the quality of these decals as usual a great product of Mark's. I am going to be able to do 133 Navy aircraft, 133 Marine Corps aircraft once I get them all painted.

Currently I have 325 aircraft built and nearly 100 painted and awaiting decals. Last night I nearly finished some 20 USCG helicopters, 10 are SH-3 SEA KING's, and 10 are SH-60's, I am hoping to find some decals for the Coast Guard to add their emblem on the side of the helicopters as well as the U.S. Coast Guard label the have also.

These helicopters where the most painting I'd done on aircraft in a while, but the turned out pretty decent for hand painting the markings, if I say so myself. I am getting some pictures made of them as soon as I finish them up, then I will post them for everyone.

Well aircraft, ships, and everything else in paint production is now at a freakin dead stop............I broke my airbrush.... :censored_2: :censored_2: Actually I broke the needle nozzle, I am hoping my LHS has one in stock or Hobby Lobby. I was doing a good deep cleaning of the airbrush and when I was putting things back together I snapped the threads off in the airbrush, lucky for me I was able to remove the broken threads and everything else went back together fine but a new nozzle is now priority #1.

Other then that little set back, aircraft construction is currently on hold until I finish getting the 300+ aircraft I've got built finished (Painting) :lol_pound: but with the airbrush issue I am back to the old hand brushing :eyes_spinning: At least I can get something done on them at least.

Today I worked on (4) C-130's getting them painted overall white in preparing to detail them out in COAST GUARD colors, as well as a couple P-3 ORIONS, which are being painted in the Hi-Viz scheme of white on gull grey. I finished up (5) TU-95 "Bears" and they are all prettied up.

Tomorrow, I plan to get the painting finished on the C-130's, then fall back and decal as many other aircraft as I can, I have a ton to get decaled and sealed afterwards. Saturday, I spent the whole day painting (1) yes (1) F-4J Phantom which is painted in Marine red and yellow, I have it set up to be a static display at the air field, since I lost the main landing gear for this one. I still have a ton of work to get done, I hope everyone is doing well and hope to hear from you guys soon, take care until next time.

Good news New Air brush arrived today from James Shapra, Thank you!!!!!
It works great and has already been put to good use getting a dozen F4-J Phantoms painted in a nice camo pattern (free style), I have also finished (4) USCG C-130H aircraft, (2) USMC C-130E, (2) C-5A's, (5) P-2V7's made up for JMSDF, (2) B-52-G's, & (5) B-1B's, I think there are a few more that I finished this evening and I have also replaced my SD card in my camera and I hope to start adding new pictures of what is now finished finally.

I have also been in contact with a few Model Supply Companies as to product sponsorship and I hope to hear from them soon. I hope they will sponsor this project, it would be nice. I also have a nice package coming in the mail from a fellow member on the forum here with a bunch of aircraft and other things, as well as another package of submarines from a fellow builder as well. I am excitied to be getting these packages.

Well guys that's all for now I will post more tomorrow and hopefully with a nice batch of pictures.
