I am in the very beginning stages of this build. This is a project that I've been wanting to do for quite some time now. It will be a diorama of the USS New Orleans CA-32 accompanied by USS Maury DD-401, making their way into Tulagi Harbor on the morning of December 1st, 1942 immediately following the Battle of Tassafaronga. The first image depicts what I plan to recreate in 1:700 scale. If you pay close attention to the forward most starboard side of New Orleans, you will notice the very tip of Maury's bow, as she was assisting New Orleans into the harbor.

This is an exciting project for me as my grandfather was aboard the New Orleans From Pearl Harbor until the Battle of Tassafaronga. Here are some links to some related builds by some really talented modelers that I have found. Feel free to post links to other related builds, I would love to see them! I hope everyone will enjoy viewing these projects as much as I have.

Gonna echo a lot of others, due to a huge soft spot for any Solomons combatants: Keep it up!

Should be interesting. Tassafaronga is the inspiration for my Naganami build.

When you get some photos of that build, post a link please. I'd love to see it! I've heard speculation that Naganami may have been the destroyer that hit Portland at Tassagfaronga. I haven't seen too many Portland builds so maybe I'll put that one on my to do list.

I've got a W-I-P thread that's getting a little longer than I expected, here: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=106793

Depending on the source, Naganami seems credited with torpedoing several different ships, including Northampton, IIRC.
