Dear Friends:
Here is a very nice little lady:
Laid down as seaplane tender. Rebuilt in 1943 into light aircraft carier. This is the version I would like to build. Painting as belov.

I would like to place my first WIP - so please be forgiving...

I wiped out the doors and some details and I trased the hull:

and added some supports:

Bow and stern deck is going to be replaced:

also main deck will go down as photoetched part:

Looking very good.

I just wanted to throw out a little caution from someone who has scribed hull plates: Make sure that, post priming, they are as subtle as possible. My first attempt at this came off as horribly overscale.

Nice, neat work. I like the flight deck planking of the kit. Why can't Fujimi get this right?

Where do the replacement PE decks come from?

Thank you for advice. Looking at them naked eyes they are almost invisible. I closed the grooves after the scribing.... Should be OK - we will see!

It's not aftermarket set. I made my own one for that project. Just scanned original plastic deck, made the drawings and etched.
Baby on photoetched sea... ;)

and some details:

Since there is a very little references for that ship - it's a "suppose to be" design...

Any photos or source materials of Chitose in aircraft version would be very welcome.... :)

There's an excellent set of plans for one of the sisters as a CVL. I'll have to check which sister and publisher. I guess there's not to much on the CASF thread.

Maybe these can help

The publisher was a Japanese company named Pleiades. Not sure if they're still in business as I no longer see it carried on HLJ. The planset was for Chiyoda, issued in late 2004, ISBN4-7720-0893-4

HTH.

Are you using a soldering iron to bind the PE?

This looks like it's going to be something special.

No. I'm using superglue for professional application
Thank you for watching

Linoleum laying down:

base color for whole area:

and after scribbing off from the brass fixing bars:
Image
Image

Main desk decking started !

to tone up the surface I made kind of "preshading":

Image
Image

preliminary main base colors:
Image

and after draft oil filtering:

I consider to apply darken color into gaps to expose a bit more planking joints but I'm afraid it would go like "too much" ... I have no experience here...
What do you think ?

I have zero experience with 1/700 kits, but i think it will look great with another wash.

Also...most wooden decks on models (painted and real wood) I see are way too yellow imho.
I vote for a more greyish finish, wood on ships doesn't lookt like a freshly cut tree.

Love your build!

Beautiful. I'd like to talk with you offline about your PE deck, if possible.
