I'm at a loss for words. This is so stunningly beautiful - the details are just amazing. Magnificent. Just magnificent.

Microscopic detail, and with paintwork to match it! Fantastic job!!!
It is a real pleasure, and very educational, to follow this thread.

Cheers,

Marijn

Thank you all for the kind comments!

June has been a kind of letdown - I just could not find any time for modelmaking although I really want to get this job done.
Recently I could make some progress so here's a report for those who are still interested.
I added rigging to the ship's derricks and booms, fitted the helm indicator gear, jack and ensign staffs and the hangar on turret Q. I opened up a beam on top of the hangar to allow for the placement of an aircraft.

The hangar itself will be clad by simulated canvas sheets but in order to keep the aircraft visible I plan to leave the top and one side open. I plan to show the process of applying these sheets to the top of the hangar frame with crew members pulling the rolled canvas by ropes - I don't know how it turns out.
I have to construct the aircraft as well - it's going to be a Sopwith Pup by Admiralty Modelworks.
You can see the components of this excellent accessory in the picture below (parts are provided for a Sopwith Camel and a 1 1/2 Strutter as well)

When I'm finished with the hangar and aircraft the remaining tasks will be:
- to fit the rigging
- to add signal flags and an ensign
- to populate the ship with about 80 crew members
Apparently there's not too much work left.

Dino, Nicolas,
thank you very much!
I really intend to fit the usual rigging to the Pup - we'll see how it turns out.

Vincent, it's really pleasing to read such a compliment from a builder of an excellent Tiger!

We had a heatwave here in Hungary which practically prevented me from modelling with room temperatures reaching unbearable levels.
So progress was again very slow.
I did finish the Sopwith Pup though.
This is one really tiny aircraft!
Length of the fuselage is 9 mm - it looks as if it was 1:1200, not 700.
Admiralty Modelworks did a great job with this diminutive biplane indeed.
Still I couldn't help making some improvements to it.
I drilled the cockpit deeper - it was just a shallow recess. The engine bay was also drilled deep and some imitation of the engine built up from stretched sprue was added along with a cowling from wire sanded to shape.
I didn't use the PE interplane struts because the rigging provided with them was deemed to thick.
The aforementioned struts and all the rigging is from thin stretched sprue - still a bit too thick but this miniscule detailwork approaches the limits of what I can do in 1:700. The plane was spray painted and decals were added from the AM set.
In the pictures the aircraft is attached to a small pin.

On top of a coin:

And a ruler:

The placement in the hangar proved to be a tight fit!
In fact I had to bend the front frame outward to be able to place the aircraft inside.
Strips of cigarette paper were attached to the top to simulate rolled canvas.
I'll add crew members pulling ropes atteched to these later along with the rest of the crew.

I think the addition of the hangar with the aircraft inside provides an additional point of interest and enhances the appeal of the model.
Next I will complete the rigging then add the flags and finally the crew.

You are working steadily and brilliantly towards conclusion!

when I built my AM modelworks Pup for Courageous ( 4 years ago) --I substituted the PE struts fro PE handrail longitudinals from spare PE

and made my own cabane struts from chopped down handrail.

I also drilled the cockpit out but did not attempt to replicate the engine--that nuttiness I leave to you!!! :cool_2:  :wave_1:

here is my attempt= though with hindsight it wish it was as fine as yours !! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

What he said! And the vent to the left of the turret in the last photo is rigged! Unreal workmanship.

Absolutely! It is also really great to see the plane inside the hangar. I had seen the hangar before, but didn't know the plane was to fit in it sideways. Only now I realise why it has this strange shape... :)
And a fantastic job on that tiny plane!

Cheers,

Marijn

Greg, Jim, Nicolas and Marijn,

thank you very much!
Your words of praise motivate me no end!

Jim, I think your Pup is no way inferior to mine. It was used as a reference during construction.

Marijn, the placement of the aircraft is strange indeed. The hangar had to be removed the plane turned 90 degrees and an additional platform erected over the gun barrels for it to be able to take off.
