IJN Yahagi 1945 1/350

Hello everyone,

Going to start posting my updates on my 1/350 Hasegawa IJN Yahagi as she was in 1945. I am building this in conjunction with the Cruiser Group Build. At this point I am using the base Hasegawa kit along with two of the PE detail sets. I have assembled the hull, done basic painting and begun detailing and assembly of the bridge.

Wow, thanks for all the positive comments. This is possibly the best injection molded kit I have ever worked on. The breakdown is very well thought out, the way the parts are molded help with clean up, fit is amazing. The PE is both simple and the most complex I have ever used. They have bend lines etched in that make it practically fold itself, but it is extremely vulnerable to big ham hands like mine. Hopefully I will post some more soon.

Wowie. I'm looking forward to your progress on Hara's last command. PE looks good. I wish this wasn't so prohibitively expensive... would love to have one.

Update,

Painted the bridge assembly, looks too clean for a late war IJN vessel


So the Weathering has begun


Inside the bridge, not really happy with result of replicating the wood. Might just leave it alone because you can't see inside very well even though its open, but it will probably bug me because I know it's there.


Still a long way to go and lots of touch ups, but progress is happening.

Some progress, work has been tying up most of my time but when half the RDF PE pinged off into oblivion, I needed to take a break and try to come up with a solution. Not the end of the world, and I thought I had some PE ones from other sets that would work but there is a definite difference. So I want the bridge 100% prior to moving on. The Hasegawa PE is now showing its true colors when it comes to handling, like earlier said it sometimes practically folds itself and other times I can't get it to go the way it needs to.

Looking very good, could you explain how you're handling the painting, airbrush, hand, combination...?

Thanks, I do most of the painting with Tamiya acrylics and an airbrush. None of the deck levels are secured, further testament to how well engineered this kit is. I do the bulk assembly, take it and spray it and then brush paint touch ups, details or anything else that needs to be a different color or shade. I weather with Tamiya weathering sets. The last set of pics don't show very well, don't know why I can't get better shots as my first pics were taken with my iPad as well
