I am building the Tamiya 1/700 USS Indianapolis at her time of loss. I will be using the Tom's Indianapolis PE set plus the 3D Model Parts 5" 25 guns, quad 40mm bofors, and twin 20 mm cannons. I am looking at just a nice model of her and will not be attempting to change or correct any issues with the kit itself. I will be using WEM enamels for the MS22 paint scheme. Thanks in advance for looking and for any tips. Mike.

Got the hull together and the start of the aft superstructure. I did a little sanding/cleaning up around the joints and there are a couple small areas that will need a little filler. Once that is done I will start some of the painting on this section.

Small update. Hull together, cleaned up, and initial painting done. Some of the aft superstructure is done also. Haven't had a lot of time recently but hope to get some things done on her this weekend.

Abram, they are all White Ensign Models enamels. I really like them and have had good luck with them. Everything on her is hand painted because I am not good with my airbrush. (need to start practicing with it so I can start using it lol)

Another small update. Added more of the superstructure. Still need to do some touch-ups on the paint in areas and will also be adding some of the PE in this area before moving on because it is easier to access some spots before things start getting in the way.

Those colors make it look as if it's 1/350. Very nice work so far!

I got a little more done over the weekend. Started on some of the stairs and did a little more touch up work. I hope to add some more of the PE over the next couple days and also start adding more superstructure. I am excited about getting to where I am ready to try the 3D Modelparts 20mm, 40mm, and 5 inchers.

Looking good. I've found putting the 3DModelParts pieces together on their wafers and painting them on there works really well. Then I use a pair of tweezers to hold the part then an old pair of cuticle cutters to remove it. I haven't lost a piece yet.

Started a little of the PE work on the aft superstructure and also a little paint touch up here and there. Haven't had much time the last week but managed to squeeze a little work in over the weekend.

Making progress slowly but surely. Got the stacks done and installed, more of the rear superstructure, and a little more PE stuff done.

Making slow but steady progress. Got more of the PE done on the rear of the forward superstructure plus more of the bridge area done. Hoping to have some time to get more done this weekend.

Added a little more PE and assembled/added the aircraft crane and the catapult. I have to say that the catapult was the most complex piece of PE I have ever assembled. I have done quite a bit of railings, a couple radars, and even a couple quad 1.1's but that catapult was a beast! I messed up a little on it but was able to mostly correct the damage. When the instructions have an entire page just for assembling the catapult, you know it will be a bit of a challenge lol! In the end it doesn't look too bad and was even fun to build. Now that I have assembled one, I will do better on the next one in the future. I should be able to get more PE done this weekend and hopefully some of her armament.

Got started working on the 3D Model Parts 5 inch guns and they are great. I didn't have any problems working with them and the detail on them is awesome. Also got some more touch-up work and PE work done this weekend.

Got the main guns done and in place. This was my first time using brass barrels and though they are a little crooked now (I will adjust them tonight) I am very happy with how they look. I have the 3D Model Parts quad 40's painted and ready to assemble and install tonight.

The 3D Model Parts quad 40's are assembled and in. They were easy to work with and they look very good. I painted the twin 20's and their mounts last night and hope to start assembling and adding those either tonight or tomorrow.
