Is that platform on the back of the Hangar the platform for the Rangefinder that goes back there? I am so confused (and annoyed at my old SF build - I can hardly wait to build it again). MB |

Hey Gabriel - have you finished the hangar yet? What you have is much better than the stock kit and I am not suggesting a rip & tear! However, if it's not installed there might be a neat opportunity for you (one that I hope to realize on my build if I ever get back to it). The hangar was not a squared off box, it was actually tapered aft, and there were a couple of doors to the aft deck. That's what you're seeing in this photo that Matt posted. I took the Astoria Booklet of General Plans and the damage plate I posted to demonstrate: Attachment: Note the doors showing in the Astoria BOGP (note also the "Vent Trunk" labelled in the plans is also visible in San Francisco). The reason I stopped my build is I can't figure out the side blocks - they're open other than lockers on the Astoria plans but appear more sectioned on San Francisco. I didn't have access to Astoria's BOGP before and didn't think to compare the two... food for thought in my own (stalled) build. |

MatthewB wrote: Is that platform on the back of the Hangar the platform for the Rangefinder that goes back there? That platform had different things on it in different fits. After her Aug 44 retrofit it was a single 20mm Oerlikon. Thanks Tracy! That is awesome. I did see the damage report you sent over and that started me thinking about redoing the hangar area. The Astoria plans gives me some more fuel for this. I will likely be attacking it soon. This also gives some indication about the items on the outer bulkheads of the hangar now too. |

Been a while since I was able to work on her. Work has started progressing again. I have realized that I am going to need to redo most of the splinter shields on the kit. No pictures to show yet, but work has started on this. |

Once I have these attached to the top of the hangar area i will post pictures of that. Wow. OK, I don't feel so bad about the fiddly-ness of the Pontos catapult PE on the Missouri now... Tim . |

You are either complimenting my abilities to cut a straight line in brass or telling my that I am insane for taking umbridge with Trumpeter's shields? (For anyone not aware, Tim and I are friends in the real world so we tease each other a lot in good fun). |

More like I'm impressed you're going that route--that's a lot of splinter shields, and yes, some pretty heavy lifting! I only had to fabricate two for the (mysteriously) missing quad 40s that go with my Mo. Heck, they're probably in the same place as the 40mm barrels, and will be discovered long after I finish building that beast. Tim W. |

Glad to have it coming back. I got some more work done on the catapult towers. But now have the observation window and the does as well as removed extrainious "detailing". The PE caps are on them as well. I also started working on the 40mm gun tubs, but the brass I cut was not long enough. So I have to redo that. |

She just got dry docked for a while. The amount of issues I was starting to fix hit my tolerance level. I am jumping to the Hiryu for now. |
