Hi Guys

Since this will also be a OOB build I decided to call them all fun builds

Another one that was on my shelf was the IJN Repair ship Akashi (明石)

I never started it, because I wanted the PE etc etc.....( I bought it long ago before the PE version was available)

So, 10 years later I thought, what the heck, lets start it, and build it out of the box, with no add ons

After examining the ship I thought the port holes were almost not visible, so I drilled them all out with a 0,6 mm drill
(there goes my out of box theory )

No this is probably the only thing I will do, because it is so important for the impression of the ship

Yes, that does look better IMHO


Here the mid deck with crane (hmmmm maybe I will add the cables, not too much work )


And some painting of the front deck with linoleum and a clear coat

Also a little question : to paint the details with a small brush, I also thin my Tamiya paint in a ratio 1:1 with Tamiya thinner, but it dries very fast... I hardly get the time to paint before it dries up.... so I use a lot of thin layers.... are there other methods ?? I used to paint with enamels, and that did paint a lot easier..

Any tips ?? (I have been searching the net and have found the same "problems" but no solution.....)

Looking good. I've been debating whether to rebuild mine (at least 10 years old), or start a new one.

Here a small update (as I've not been able to spend much time building)

I had some difficulty putting these in, so I cut them and attached them so it made a good fit
(The not so good fit is shown here )


Because I like the weight of the "normal" waterline ships i put in some lead
Also some work on the bridge can be seen


The front life boat painted with deck tan for the planks, white on the inside and grey on the outside
I noticed this paint scheme on a Finemold set, and besides the fact that it looks nice probably also is accurate


Here the bridge and large crane are installed as well


and finally a picture of the 17m Pinnace and the large mid crane (not fixed yet)


I know, not as fancy as most of the threads here (I almost feel shamed to post my pictures here) ,and because of the lack of responses not as interesting as others
Well, I'm having fun with it, and thats the most important part isn't it ??

I think it's pretty cool. I'm a fan as long as there is a gun on it. ...or a fishing-pole-holder in 1/1 scale. I don't see myself building Bismarck, Yamato, Hood, or any other household name ship. I like the oddities, the rarities, and the strange.

Indeed a very interesting ship..... i remember drooling over the book: "Warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy 1869-1945" over all those beautiful and strange looking ships, and wishing for them to come out in 1/700 scale.... (and now look 35 years later )

Anyway, today I had time for building again (24h shift was quiet, so a free day today )

here some results, she's almost done

the (lower) set of lifeboats painted and fixed on the ship, a (very little) bit of rigging on the cranes (just because it looks a little better)

So, a few detail parts, and some painting on the rear mast (black) and she's ready.... (maybe tomorrow)
