Hello to everibody, this is my first post in this forum...this is the Dragon kit with GMM photoetch and some others scratch built details like propeller shaft supports, etc. I think it's near 80% of completition and i wish to terminate this project in the near month. Sorry for my english, but it's not my native language. Greetings from Italy!

Alessandro

Welcome! Don't apologize for your English. It's certainly better than my Italian!

Nice looking build. Look forward to seeing more.

Some details like deptcharge arbor heads or open watertight doors are spare parts from GMM 1/350 USS Buckley/England photoetch set

Beautiful work, Alessandro. Can I ask your impressions of the Tehnoart kit? I've read good things about it and considered buying it not seen many under construction.

Hello Bill, thank for your words. Regard the tehnoart kit all i can say is that it's a beautiful kit that need some experience...One have to care about the correct alignment and a slot free joint of the various superstructures on each other and on the main deck, for wich i used strips of plasticard, putty and sanding sticks. The majority of the connections from brass to brass and resin to brass used pins, so it's better to have a good reserve of small drill bit...from 0.3 mm to 3 mm. The model can be built with only super glue, but a soldering iron it's better for a stronger attachment. Remember to wash wery well with soup every piece of the model...i forget to do this for a single photoetched brass deck and the mask tape (tamiya) ripped all the paint and decals! :doh_1:
Regard accuracy i'm not an expert of this type of ship, but from various internet's photos there is some room for improvements like funnel's handrails, inner face of lateral bulkheads, some ventcaps and others small fittings. After the USS Gearing i wish to post some more images of USS De Haven. If you have some more specific questions about this model i am happy to respond to you as soon as possible.

Alessandro

This is a small update of the work in progress, so the most difficult things left to do are the dual guns oerlikons, with those tiny barrels from master models...and then the paintwork, wich I try to began as soon as possyble, starting with hull antifouling red (WEM US-14) and decks with deck blue (Humbrol 123) and associated antiskid decals.

Painted with WEM and Humbrol colors, then two coat of Humbrol Clear, decals and a single coat of Micoscale matt clear...I'm really satisfied with these results! :woo_hoo: The model is actually only dryfitted, because i have to paint all the little details like cable reels, installing other details and armaments, and rigging the model, so I work better with the main superstructure and complicated parts like funnels, separated from each other and the hull.
Now i have to pray to don't mess up something in these last stages! I think in the next two weeks to end this project. Regards!

Alessandro

Beautiful job so far :thumbs_up_1: I will never understand how you do so much detail, then pull off such a clean paint job. I can't achieve such a fine result painting each subassembly individually.

Looking forward to seeing completion,

Matt

...Rigging Time! for me the most difficult task on building ships in such small scale... :eyes_spinning: Maybe it's time to move on a bigger scale, something like 1/200???

Brilliant!

I really like the darkened safety netting against the lighter lifelines. That looks soooo good.

The white surround for the practice loaders is another detail we don't often see. Terrific!
