Part of a bigger project requiring this style of funnel. I think most people can complete an entire kit in the time it has taken to do this. Challenging yet fun.

What kind of ship (it's not like the Queen Elizabeth) and where you can see more detail this work?

The main project is a Warspite to Barham conversion using the Academy kit that I picked up for a song in a sale at my LHS. When I started about a year ago, I had no real idea about the differences between the ships so the Warspite kit with some remaining casemate guns seemed a good idea. Now? Not so much.
I haven't really been taking pictures, just enjoying the build. I have plenty of line drawings developed from merging scans from the AOTS book and a PDF from Profile Morskie, but that's about it.
Here's a token photo of the hull, reworked to restore the forward casemates:

The hull is pretty much done (outboard at least) and once I have corrected some painting errors, I intend to post some pictures of that.

This is most respectable craftsmanship.
The unique shape of that trunked funnel has been captured perfectly.
I would love to see more pictures of this build bacause I am building the Barham myself (in 1:700, though).

After much pondering about masking straight lines across uneven surfaces I splashed out a whopping $13 on a laser line marker on Amazon. It's not one of the level gauge products just a simple crude line projector that can be rotated to any angle.

The laser line is ridiculously thick, but it's edges are sharp enough and it's easy to pencil some marker lines in key locations. Plus I can set the angle using the printed paint guide very easily too. This idea may be a winner ;)

Here's an enlargement showing the tricky areas - angled platform base with a rounded edge and curved funnel

I haven't seen anyone post this idea before but accept it's probably already out there.

Time to start working on a diorama to place it in....

Deck house

You couldn't see it an any of the previous images, but the funnel is completely hollow with a uniform wall thickness complete with internal braces and ducting. Trying to make it as deep as possible I have gone down into this deckhouse were the boiler uptakes come together. Once painted black I'm hoping it'll please in the most inquisitive torch shiner....

Pom-pom platforms

Hut

Not sure it's clear in the photos but I've use copper wire to emulate strakes up the slope on each side, presumably for grip for the crew.

Test fit

Right now, the top of the pom-pom rail and the bottom of the searchlight platform are trying to occupy the same space. Bugger.

Ah, even the masters have hiccups. Hope for us mere mortals! :heh:

Seriously, that is some sick work.

This is very interesting!

...it remembers me something :heh:

By the way much better than my so far :thumbs_up_1:

Under the pom poms platforms there was something around the trunk, a sort of catwalk that I wasn't able to identify.

That's an interesting picture. Thank you.

It also illustrates what looks like an error in the Trumpeter 1/700 paint guide (that I've been using)

The light grey area at the front of the funnel

That can't be a trick of the light??

Just guessing, but these could have been protected torpedo lookouts positions. It would be interesting to have a look at the Admiralty as fitted plans even if there's the possibility that these additions were never recorded before the ship sank.

Talking about the paint work on the signal deck I think that it was 507B , it's not a shadow.
