I have been working on the inaccurate Trumpeter Arizona since last December. It started out as a 1 year group build kit for another site. Alas the kit has so many incorrect items that I will never finish it in time for the group build. I would rather it be absolutely as nice and correct as I can "reasonably" make it. I know there are major hull inconsistencies as well as plenty of other poorly done items. References and looking at builds on this and a couple of other sites have steered me in positive directions to get things at least "looking" correct.

So here is a beginning to my build. I will play catch up and make small posts over the next few days/weeks to get the photos up to where I am currently at on the build. At this point I have set it aside while I build and finish a couple of smaller non related kits and get my building mojo back up to snuff.

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

I will be covering a lot of little details. So stay tuned.

Thanks to the moderator for putting this in the proper place. Going from the Board Index it wasn't real clear where to put it. (I did best guess)

So, to get some interest going I am posting the next step on here to see if anyone takes an interest. This next bit covered the very first thing I noticed that was incorrect with the kit. To be honest it is probably one of the least glaring errors and is totally due to how plastic molding works. Yeah, Trumpeter could possibly have done something to correct these portholes, but alas oval portholes are not correct.

Here is how I fixed it.

Yeah, it is a bit late on the build of this kit compared to all the early birds, but I an just now getting to it. Watch and see what else I find that needs rework.

Who cares how many folks have tackled a ship kit before you, as long as you're having fun and sharing the wealth! :thumbs_up_1:

I'll be watching your progress. :wave_1:

Thanks for the post Sean!

Here is another catch up post. As I have been posting on Modelers Alliance and Fine Scale Modeler forums, they are unaware of some of the references found on this forum. Thus there are references that I am sure many of you know about, but I am just going to post it as it has been done.

Enjoy!

Alright this should get some attention. There is a ton of stuff to correct on the hull. The following items are just a bare start. I borrowed an item from one of the other builders on this forum in one post. Hope he doesn't mind. Just using it to illustrate what I am doing and following in his shoes on the fore deck.

OK, I limit my posts to about 10 photos per post. This keeps some forum pages from becoming ridiculously long and makes for convenient brakes in the photo stream. I have another few to post with this section so. . .

To be continued. . .

It has been a little bit and there is more to post and catch up with. Here is some more on my build. Some hull work but a lot of initial rework on the 5 inch guns.

Enjoy!

As I have stated before, I usually limit the photos to about 10 per post. On some forums they allow large numbers of comments and a lot of photos tend to make the pages ridiculously long.

Here is the finish of this installment.

Thanks for all your nice comments everyone! Much appreciated!

While I have been off the Arizona for a bit, there is still a fair amount to play catch up with here, so here is the next installment.

Here is the continuation of this posting batch. Nope not guns. Took a little break from the 5 inch guns and poured some resin.

That's all for now. As I said there have been some other projects I jumped on and set this aside for a bit. Getting fired up though to try and get some more progress on this build though.

Till next time. . .

This is gonna be good!!!

Just a factoid, I found out recently that Olympia's current 5"/51s are from the Pearl Harbor BBs. West Virginia and I think Maryland were mentioned.

I would believe that Cliffy. There are a number of photos of 5 inch guns and their mounts. The barrels all seem to be the same but the mounts kind of go into two types. What I ended up doing was to scrutinize one of the really high res photos I found on the web of the Arizona from about 1931. There is the 5 inch gun just behind the 2nd turret and even though it was a bit fuzzy, it showed enough to get a good idea of what was there.

What will probably irritate you guys is the fact that I spend so long getting the details right that I get to a point and then jump around a bit. Never fear I will get back to the stuff not quite finished, but it might take a while.

Too many irons and not enough fire.

Eagle, I wouldn't get too wrapped around the axle on the 5"/51 mounts. By the time you install the O2 deck very little of the gun is seen. For the discussion, here are some pictures from the USS Texas.
