After years away from building any ship models, I got the ship building bug again. My last build can be seen here: http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html and here: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=44576 I hope to build the Stoddert to the same standard. Though this kit is full hull, I'll be displaying it waterline underway. I've always liked the look of the Charles F. Adams class DDGs, so when L'Arsenal released theirs back in 2012, I knew I'd probably build one some day. I just received and inventoried the kit parts yesterday. I like the later look of the class in the 80s, so figured I'd modify the kit a bit.

These photos show the look I'm going after. These were all taken in the 1986 time frame. Also, the Desron 25 emblem should add an interesting splash of color to the model.

The following photos show the kit parts and the after market parts I bought for the build. No matter how good the kit parts are, I always seem to customize my builds with some aftermarket stuff. I'll also be adding extra details not present on the kit. The bulk of my research material comes from the 400+ photos on Ray Bean's excellent Adams class photo CD, and whatever photos I've found on the internet. I also have 1/96 scale plans for DDG-13 Hoel as seen in 1985 that I bought years ago from The Floating Drydock. While having a slightly different bow configuration, and differing in other details, the plans should help with scratch building details like the later style underway replenishment gear, etc.

Keith,

Sounds like there's a bit of a back story here.

I cleaned up the hull. I filled the few bubbles and wet sanded the lower hull with 400 grit sandpaper. Though I'll be displaying the Stoddert underway, I couldn't help prepping the lower hull. I've also repaired some damage and parts that were broken off the hull and bridge. I'm nearly finished with the details on the starboard side. I've been adding additional details using extra photo etched sets, left overs from other sets, styrene, and brass rod. The 400+ photos from Ray Bean's photo CD have been invaluable for identifying details. This build won't be 100% accurate, but I wanted to portray the busy look of the superstructure of the ship. Also, I scraped off the molded doors and ladders and added etched brass replacements.

I've been making more progress with the details. This time working on the port side of the ship. I still have more details to add, but thought I'd post some photos.
