Type 65 Jiangnan Class frigateType 65 Jiangnan class frigate is the first major warships designed and built by China since 1945. Some basic design is based on Type 6601 Chengdu class frigate but all the equipments and materials are made in China. Because the weakness of Chinese industrial that days, the steam turbine propulsions are replaced by diesel engines, and the 100mm main naval guns are replaced by coastal defence guns.The first ship was built in 1963 in the Guangzhou shipyard, and delivered to the PLAN in 1966. 5 frigates of this class were built and all of them serviced in South Sea Fleet. No.502 Nanchong fought in the Nansha Strike and sunk the No.604 of Vietnamese Navy.
