This guy is one of a kind.great detail, a bit exaggerated, but finally beautiful with one major drawback ,the solution is to cut the aft superstructure and place one quarter of inch backwards (around 6 mm)

You are the Oracle Jim :rolf_3:

thank You for the nice comment :wave_1:

Yes this fix was kind of messy ,but finally got done, now I need to repair the damaged area, but will be ok,IMHO, for me resin ships are easier than plastic ,I will try to finish it in a couple of months, ISW models are a great baseline, but they need lots of work to be a quality looking model. One thing that amazed me ,the instructions are quite good ,my other ISW kits , my God, are terrible to say something.
My plans are to replace the main turrets with Micromaster 3D printed and the secondary guns with some resin stuff I got and brass barrels.

This looks like the beginning of a very interesting project! :thumbs_up_1:
I guess you will keep it full hull?

Cheers,

Marijn

Thank you Marijn :wave_1:
Nothing like your breathtaking Amagi diorama, beside it, this will be a kindergarten build, but yes I will keep the full hull ,also want to go with some ideas to fix the exaggerated hull plating.
Everything else will be quite straightforward .

Wow - nerves (or is that balls?) of steel! I am not sure I would have had the fortitude to cut that superstructure off. Well done.

Was busy with another model ,now retaked this one to keep some sort of a pace, now I realised ,this cookie is not an easy meal, found another big flaw in my kit, part of the bottom of the hull is missing, a big part of area around the front starboard side, I presume is due to the resin shrinkage , my front starboard area is missing quite a lot, I used nearly .050 " styrene patches to give a kind of symmetry ,lacking plans I tried to do the best possible, now looks much better ,but this one is not the most accurate thing I have encountered, still with this issues ,I love this model.

The aft superstructure now is fixed ,need to reescribe the lines ,but that will be easier than the hull.Next to finish the hull piece ,which is the most time consuming.

Thanks Aop, also love your work on the propellers :thumbs_up_1:

Didn't like the previous work on hull and I decided to modify it further, more styrene on bigger area ,gosh this big resin ships are quite difficult but thank God are available ,they are kind easy to accept many mods.

I believe now bow is almost symmetrical and ready to go to next step, which will be to set up correctly the propellers and rudder

Guess what???? :rolf_3: Another flaw !!!!

The armor belt , first is exaggerated, but that is not an the big issue ,it is uneven with the other side at least 1mm higher ,is very noticeable and annoying ,not sure if it is the same inherent problem with the kit, or is only a problem in my sample ,but found port side quite nice ,starboard is full of problems, like uneven hull shape, my friends on ISW should take a better look to sell this resin hulls :bash_2: ,anyway work is on ,and managed to correct it (sort of :heh: ) Top photo is the incorrect belt, port is 1 mm below

Keeping the pace (mostly :heh: ) almost in the last part of the hull,it needs fine tuning, but getting better, added plastic strips to try to disguise the very exaggerated armor belt, I know is not accurate, but at least is the most visual gain method. With this model , I knew since the beginning, in order to make a precise and accurate redemption of the HMS Orion is beyond my capability , the best way is to fully scratch the model, but still I am very happy with this ISW kit,and I'm sure ,it will turn in a nice model of such a gorgeous warship.

Few more pics of the process ,any comment is very welcome (positive and negative)

Thanks Martin, doing my best, now shifted to small details ,starting the 4 inchers MK VII for the secondary armament, found the best solution is to use the Komplekt Zip 102 mm resin guns, truly remarkable pieces, put some spare flywheels and Master Models RN 4" brass guns ,for the main guns ,prepping the Micro Master ( :heh: too much Masters) printed Orion turrets which BTW are simply awesome.

Kits like this really annoy me. Paying so much money to get you a missaphen lump that requires similar skill and effort that would be required to scratch build just seems unethical.

That armour belt is a case in point. You're making a master for kits that will be sold for hundreds. Is it really asking too much to expect the pattern maker to use some extremely basic construction techniques and use their sodding eyeballs to check it's symmetrical before casting?

It makes my blood boil. The kit would be better value for money if it just contained drawings and unused raw materials.
