To say I was inspired by George Pék and his HMS Tiger is an understatement. That legendary build thread is nothing I can come close to ever hoping to emulate, so here is my humble attempt at HMS Tiger, post war. I wanted to depict her with her topgallant removed and her Sopwith. It’s an attractive configuration indeed.

So the usual ingredients, Combrig’s Tiger, od which I threw most away, Artist Hobby’s fine PE set, an impossibly hard to find AHM Sopwith Strutter, and numerous scratch built and borrowed details:

Shall we begin?

This WIP picks up mid-way through the build, I’ll catch us up over the next few days.

I started with the funnels. The Combrig castings were broken and lacked depth anyway. I turned new funnel casings from aluminum tube. For some reason the photo below makes them appear larger but they are the same diameter. Some of the steam pipes aren’t attatched so the wonky angle was fixed. It’s just staged for the sake of the photo:

I think nobody can emulate the precision of Georges' modelling, but this doesn't look too far off!

Fantastic work! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Please teach me how to turn on a lathe? :)

Cheers,

Marijn

It is really flattering that my humble work is an inspiration to someone. I will follow your build with great interest. In one aspect you have already surpassed my standard - I don't have a lathe and I just used the original funnels (with some improvements).

Thanks guys,

She’s 1/700 scale

Here are some updates. The photos with the notations were originally intended for another write up I’m doing for redit.

Beautiful job :thumbs_up_1:

Not the best period of the Tiger in my personal opinion (mine is 1916-1917) ,but your work is stunning.

I agree, but I wanted the visual interest of the deflection scales and the Sopwith. I enjoy the unusual and the strange

Thanks for the compliments guys. Today I’m airbrushing the top coat and soldier on with rigging
