I am building the Trumpeter USS Baltimore 1943 kit. I will be modifying her to appear as she deployed with the extra 40 mm tubs and such. I have a nice PE set, brass barrels, and the 3D Modelparts US Cruiser parts set with the very nice 20mm, 40mm, and 5 inch guns for her. She will be done in the Navy Blue paint scheme because I kind of like that color. I am using AK Interactive acrylics for all the painting on her. Going for a nice, easy build and not necessarily total accuracy. I have really enjoyed doing WIP threads and it keeps me on track lol.

Here are the pics of the beginning stages. There were a couple of very noticeable gaps in the hull. I filled and sanded them up and they cleaned up nice. Hull and main deck are painted Navy Blue and Deck Blue respectively. The AK Interactive acrylics sprayed just fine for me with the airbrush and turned out good.

The PE set is a generic Baltimore class set I found on eBay. It is in Chinese so I don't know what the name on it says. Not a bad set. It has a lot of stuff in it but it is a little flimsy to work with so you have to be careful. If I can figure out the name, I will let you know.

I got the main turrets assembled, primed, and detailed. I hope to spray them tomorrow and will try to get the pics posted after that.

Link to the PE set: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ship-Vessels-D ... SwXYtY0NoD

Brand is "龍興", which is a pretty common phrase and translates to something like Prosperous Dragon.

Tim, that is the one. I have gotten a couple sets from there and they tend to be a bit flimsy but overall aren't bad sets. Not as sturdy as Flyhawk or as comprehensive as GMM but not bad. Thanks for digging up the link and posting it.

I got the main turrets mostly completed over the weekend. They are assembled, primed, have PE ladders, brass barrels, and are painted. I need to paint the blast bags and detail them a tad and should have that done tonight. I will post pics tomorrow.

It will be interesting to follow this, I have a half-finished Baltimore on my workbench in much the same fit.

Finally had some time to get a couple things done. Got some of the superstructure assembled and painted up. Realized that I need to correct the 20mm tubs on the forward section to be correct and I will do that in the next couple days as well as some PE work on these sections. I also prepped and painted the 3D Modelparts 5 inch guns.

Got the new 20 mm tubs done. Had to remove the single tubs and made new ones from styrene sheet large enough for two 20's. First time trying that for me and I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I still need to sand them a little and then repaint tomorrow. Here is before, during, and after.

I've got the Ray Bean photo disc for the Baltimore class... one early overhead shot (summer 1943?) seems to show the single-gun tubs for the bridge-side 20mm guns as Trumpeter supplies with the kit, but others dated September 1943 clearly show the two-gun tub installations you have made.

Late 43 is the configuration I am shooting for so I am glad to hear that the pics I found match what you have. Thanks for the confirmation.

I did a little bit of PE work on the forward superstructure but didn't grab any pics yet. I will do some more tomorrow and get some pics posted then.

Did some more PE work on the forward superstructure and a little painting. I mounted the superstructure to the hull but had some gaps that I needed to fill. Still needs a little more sanding and touching up here and there. Also needs additional PE on the deck sections and more PE on the funnel.

Haven't had much time lately but did get a bit more PE work done on the forward superstructure and the forward funnel. Also got some work done on the forward 5 inch mounts.

Thanks Matt.

Haven't had a lot of time over the last week but I did get the aft 5 inch mounts installed along with the shields/mounts for the 20 mm and 40 mm AA guns. I used a spare 40 mm tub I had for the aft 40 mount. I added a couple bits of PE from my spares box for the braces underneath. I hope to get the 20 and 40 mm barrels added to the mounts this week.
