I will attempt to model the ocean liner Mauretania as she appeared during WWI. I searched for quite some time before I was able to obtain an Entex Lusitania kit off of ebay. I quickly purchased it as it's the only game in town in this scale. I do need to order a more appropriate photo etch set, perhaps Tom's Titanic details or the GMM merchant ship set. If someone can guide me to more generic 1/350 sets by Flyhawk or other manufacturers that may be more useful, I am all ears.

I began by securing the two hull halves together, then made underbracing for the main deck pieces. I then attached the main deck to the hull using a series of clamps. No photos were taken of this process.

I prefer to build my models waterline. Using my Hitachi cordless rotary tool, I made short work of the lower half of the kits hull. This rotary tool is phenomenal because, unlike dremel, it uses the same batteries as Hitachi's other 12v tools.

Jim Baumann was courteous enough to send me a lot of great information about Mauretania including some line arts of the camouflage. Using CorelDraw, I scaled up the line art and made templates.

This is where I stand as of now

Hi Jon :wave_1:

That looks pretty good so far!

a thought if I may...?

You may possibly want to add a waterline plate of thick styerene underneath to add stability to the hull sides-

-it will also help 'lift' the hull slightly-- she looks( to my eyes ) to be a wee bit "over-sleek" --
ie quite enough freeboard if there is any boot-top to be seen

I shall be following with interest.

Rememberer she has twin steam pipes on funnel 2 on the aft face--not just one... :thumbs_up_1:
