It has been a very long time since I started a project here. I present to you the humble beginnings of CVN 76. Starting with the usual hull corrections, I'm planning on a mostly scratch built project although, some of the 3D printed parts are tempting, I'm going to resist as best I can. I'll post updates regularly so I promise this one will not fade out. Stay tuned...

More progress on the hull corrections. I haven't decided how far I'm going to go whether mod it to her current configuration or how she was when commissioned.

Thanks. Sooooo much work to do. Just about every aspect of the ship needs attention in some way, not counting the sponsons I have to engineer from sheet styrene. Fun times. More to come this week.

Started work on the weapons sponsons. Still haven't decided which version I'm building.

Super work thus far. Very impressive. Are you a fellow USAF guy who builds ships??? I spent 20 years in the Air force but always loved naval ships (my dad was Navy).

It’s so cool to see the back side with all the working elements and then compare it to the outside and how clean it looks and how well it fits the hull :cool_2:

After some sanding and priming, I'll build the small platform otherwise well, you know.

Thanks Themongoose. I'm happy with it so far. The urge to join the dark side is resisted another day....

Almost finished with this sponson. First shot of primer to detect the bad spots. I will wait until I'm further along with the other parts of the hull before I attach the small platform.

Getting further along on the hull. Some more work on the fantail. Rough construction yet. All major sponsons have been built. Started the required surgery on the catwalks. Should be on schedule for my projected six month time frame. I see that 3DWild have added even more candy for Nimitz class. I must resist....Moving on.
