Thanks for that Jason...I looked up your Nelson thread, but the pictures in your posts seem to have disappeared.
I tried looking at a similar installation online, but what I found left me more confused than before. They seem to place the pieces like bulwarks, extending almost up till the lower chain of the railing, while i'm imagining them to be placed flat on top of the edge of the wood deck.
If its not too much to ask, could you please post a close up of where/how the strip styrene is attached in this build.
Many thanks and keep up the good work.
Sorry about the Nelson pics, long story but they are gone now. Nellie herself still exists in my display cabinet though!
It might be hard to tell in this pic of my Nelson but basically I stuck the deck veneer down, then lined it with the prepainted PE (flat) and ran the railing along the edge of that, leaving a narrow lip between the railing and side of the hull.
On Bismarck, I also put the deck down first but it was not the Pontos deck, was oversized and didn't match the lines of the hull sides in places. After the glue dried on the deck I trimmed along the edges to get enough room to run evergreen strips right up to the edge of the hull sides and blended them into the hull itself, giving me a clean edge and the effect that the deck was "inletted" into the hull rather than just stuck on top. There are lots of close-up pics, just look at the edges with the deck and it should be clear enough.
