Hello, since the announcement of the Yukikaze detail set from Infini Models, I waited months dreaming for a similar set for the kagero...So here we go!

For now I had only studied the various reference, instruction diagrams, and assembled the upper and lower hull, trying to get a smoth seams between the two pieces with superglue and 400-600-1000 grit sandpaper. In the wollowing days more to come! Excuse me but english is not my native language!

Cheers

Alessandro

Today I tried with ladders...basically i want to give the impression to have every single step instead of a continous strip, so I first scribed the plastic, sink the ladder's metal support in the engraving obtained, flush it with the skin of the model, all fixed and filled with superglue.

At least one funnel is finished...two days of work, but i'm satisfied with the illusion of these single steps! :cool_1: :woo_hoo:

It does look good.

I'm not so sure about the doors at the base of #1 funnel, though. For one, they'd be right under the inner base of the torpedo reload girder, and there's probably not enough height there for anything other than an access hatch. Which would make sense because the funnel sits on a housing that really just covers the base of the funnel uptakes. There's no where to go inside, other than to inspect the condition of the uptakes. Plus, the base of the girder needs support, which might be obviated by an aperture, even if there is a door frame there.

Hi Dan, I have the same doubts as you regard these opens but in the making of these I have to consider some point: these opens are present in every photograps that clearly depict this part of these ships; the japanese have watertight doors of various size and pattern, and some are low in height, in the range of 1,5 metres high (like many photoetched manufactures correctly depict on their set), so i think it's not absurd if the same height can be addressed to a permanently opened door or human passage. But what's the function of these opens? Simply I have no idea! I admit to not know very well these kind of vessel...so every help or support in wery well accepted!! Cheers!

With all due respect, Alex, it can only be a hatch, and not a very large one at that. The clearance between the top lid/closed hatches of the the torpedo reload storage box reload (The side of which has been removed in the photo you use to reference the opening. The top of the box is that horizontal structure just above the bystanders heads.) and the bottom of the torpedo reload gantry is barely 1.5m/5ft. That opening is maybe a third of that. Plus, there's virtually no room behind the box to move, much less to open a full size hatch or door.

To be honest, I've not seen this opening in any other photos or plans that I can see. Doesn't mean I missed it, though. I'm really not trying to be difficult, just airing my misgivings about it.

Dan, you're right, there'is no room behind the torpedo storage box for a human passage...but this hole definitely is there, so i think a sort of inspection hatch without cover can be an answer. A forum like this serve proper to overcome this kind of situations, so i definitely thank you for your efforts and interest in this project! :thumbs_up_1:

Hi, I painted the linoleum decks with Tamiya TS-69 spray can. The photoetched brass strips were masked and highlighted with a cotton tab soaked with tamiya lacquer thinner, so the bare metal come out under the paint. Cheers
