I saw pics of them with all black nose and red hull just below the dive plains, check navsource.com I believe that was where I saw them.

Finished the Trumpeter AOE 4 USS DETROIT a little while ago and finally took some pictures. Here is a pic of my AOE3 USS SEATTLE (JAG) and AOE4 USS DETRIOT on the bench.

Looks very nice indeed. How did you find the superstructure construction ? I'm not a big fan of the angled sides when joining up.

Thank you for the nice comments, I think I can agree with you. It seems that most of the plastic manufacturors have went this route. I especially do not like the desks angled to the buckheads. It seems they never fit quite right. Here is a pic of my LCS1 USS FREEDOM another fun kit to put together.

Hmmm.

As a longtime veteran of aircraft modeling, I can see the problem. Unfortunately the most likely solution here, to incorporate the superstructure sides into the hull sides in the case of such modern ships, wouldn't be much bettter; they would make for prime candidates for warping as so often happens with aircraft fuselage sides. Molding limitations would also be a factor, I can imagine, plus there's the fact that attempting to approach this from a fully-longitudinal standpoint might compromise structural integrity during assembling.

Take for example most models of the Titanic, which have the hull either as a single piece or two halves, with the inclusion of the sides from C Deck up through the Boat Deck, which would fit atop the assembly. Veterans of that ship would tell you that it can be a real PITA trying to finagle whole decks into fitting between two already-built walls, much less addressing any gaps that might arise. The recent Academy 1/700 ship with "colored molding" attempts to address that issue by having the hull divided into three parts in a pancake arrangement: lower hull in waterline red, mid-hull in black, and the superstructure (C, B and A Decks) in white.

While that could be a viable solution for future warship kits, I don't see many manufacturers taking it up.

Anyway, I'm done rambling for now. :)

Just got the Orange Hobby LSD41 USS WHIDBEY ISLAND. This is a ship I have always wanted in my collection. Also received their US NAVY Fork Lifts. Very Impressed with them. They will make a nice addition to a few of my builds. I have not open the LSD41, truth be told I am afraid to. I just put a CVN on my bench, but nothing really started on it yet. If I open the LSD there goes the carrier for another long period on the shelf. Hmmmmm.

I received my USS Comstock kit on Saturday, John. (I opened mine immediately. :wave_1: )

When they say "complete model kit" they mean it! I see no need for any other aftermarket accessories for this one.

The instructions took the wind out of sails, a bit. It looks very, intense and intricate. So, many small PE parts with their resin assembly counterparts. Wow! I wonder if I'll be able to do it justice.

It appears that each stretch of railing has been pre-measured and separated and each piece of railing is designed for a particular spot. I could get spoiled by this nice feature.

I thought that the forklifts came with the kit. I haven't opened the baggies to look yet, though.

I bet that Peter Van Buren will be the first to show one of these completed kits. Go Peter!

Peter would really do it justice. I did peek in the box as I could not help mysef. 12 pages of instructions seperate callout for LSD41; 42 or 43 is very nice too. Love the detail in the well deck too. All the wooden deck detail and rafters as well. WOW!

I am almost afraid to work on it as I always seem to bend something the wrong way. It has one LCU four M35 and two HMMWV and two CH46. I think I may want some extra M35 and some AAV7 maybe a LCAC. Not too sure only time will tell .

I think when it comes time to build it will be the only thing on the bench. I am very please so far now only if I can stop drooling.

John

Because each PE part has bend points etched in (including the railings!), I thought I should let you guys know that you are supposed to bend towards the etched bend lines (valley fold), rather than away as in a mountain fold.

Wow, the smaller ones in the middle of the sheet of forklifts, remind me of the ones I was licensed on just a few weeks ago. Talk about bringing back short memories, the curves and everything just made me go "I remember driving those.."

Looks like some good stuff, mate, keep it going.

Of course I ll post photos of other types of warships too.
