Looking pretty good Hank! Of course now that you have a first class shipyard we are going to expect great things!

Tom,

I'm going with the std. gray shingles as are on the porch roof - actually cheaper here. Probably sometime this summer. Thanks! But, the 1st class shop is still a "work in progress" and will be at the rate I'm going. No work today - car service at dealership in W-S which didn't get me home until close to 2pm this afternoon. Maybe I'll make it out there tomorrow a.m. and hit the ceiling panels again (2 to go under the loft).

Hank

Well, I finally did make it out tonight and got some other work done, the ceiling panels (I swear :mad_1:) will come next. But, over the last few nights in my garage I've been rebuilding, repurposing, and painting 3 wall cabinet units that were freebies. They were, of course, trailer trash variety and not worth much to begin with, but I've done some work and now they're hung on the back right corner of the shop. Actually, they are already full of small boxes of tools/parts/"stuff", etc. waiting to be taken out and properly stowed.

With a bit of touch up on the painting, they should be then done and I can move on to the ceiling panels and get them finished, once and for all.

However, The Admiral just bought new plants for the beds I built her last week - so, once again, to avoid a potential flogging, I'll spend the next few days working in the yard and (sigh) :cry_3:

Oh, yeah - before any of you interior design experts make comments about the arrangement of the units (left/right) - I did this for a specific reason: the unit next to the window now has a flush mtd. shelf in it so I can store "stuff" on top of the cabinet. Used space is unwasted space, I always say. :doh_1:

OK, jealousies aside...…….. :doh_1:

Actually finished the Honey-do's at noon and spent the afternoon doing some touch up on the cabinets and FINALLY getting the ceiling panels installed. It was a job manhandling them alone, but they're in place and just need some fresh paint to finish. I did get some trim work installed and will hopefully continue tomorrow with that. One more left side wall panel also cut to size and installed. So, two photos to share today:

Last item was getting the 3 LED fixtures properly mounted and now that's also finished.

So, tomorrow's tasks will be to do a clean up of the area, more rearrangement of "stuff", sanding paneling joints, and then perhaps (time permitting) rolling out primer on the wall panels and touch up of ceiling panels and trim. Maybe...another wall panel or two on the left side.

Hank! Quite the project! I hope the customer lines in your home improvement centers are less than ours. Very few available spaces in the parking lots and long lines!

Keep up the good work, very therapeutic!

Tom,
Thanks! Yes - our local Lowe's has 3 zillion employees, 1 zillion customers, and 1 checkout line open - go figure, right??

Well, progress being made - as of last night I had all the back walls painted, base cabinets painted and in place, and framework for the workbench top almost complete. I'll finish that today and possibly get the backsplash stained & polyed. The center worksurface (last photo) is being prepared in the garage. I need 4 more sections and the local Lowe's is out. So, I may have to make a river run east later today.

With very nice weather outside, The Admiral is lurking, looking for jobs for me to do, the CAT - always at her side, ready to strike at a moment's notice if I don't follow thru..... :bash_2:

Pretty fancy Hank! That is a pretty big span between the cabinets? Especially if at some time you put some power tools on it? The garage looks about like mine, at 1.2 times capacity!

What's going to be the first modeling project?

Look'n good! Tom

Tom,
Thanks! The kit-bash of the Revell FLETCHER class DD to USS STODDARD (DD-566) will be first in "the yard"!

So, over the last week I've been working mostly on getting the workbench framing/surfaces constructed & finished with a few other minor jobs along the way. I have now finished with this phase and actually have opened a couple boxes of packed up tools and begun to get a few things sorted out - much remains and this is only because I now have the cabinet & shelf space to do so. I also added an under cabinet LED fixture below the back wall cabinet. As of this morning:

We had very heavy rain over the last few days and yesterday I was up on the ladder making repairs to a leak - hopefully, this is successful and will not become a larger problem. I'll be out soon to work on a 4'x4' poplar paint shelf box to put on the left wall near the back wall shelves. One place for all the modeling paint jars/spray cans, etc. That will be nice!

Hank

Pretty nice Hank! At least the heavy rain identified the leak area now so you can fix and avoid long term issues. You have done a great job on this!

Cheers! Tom

Thanks, Tom!! I do appreciate the kind words! The leak was a lot less than 2 weeks ago, so I may have taken care of part of it, just not all of it. Still looking for the culprit; did a bit more caulking around the outside light fixtures today.

Added the wiring and fixtures for (4) recessed LED lights in the ceiling panels in the front area of the shed. They are hanging right now, but once the panels are in place they will be surface mounted (2 fixed, 2 on gimbals) and add additional cool white light to the area:

That's all that I got done today in the heat & humidity of the shop. As you can see, the "stuff" gets shifted around to be able to work on another part of the interior, as needed. What a mess!
Hank

Very impressive Hank! Great place for many many projects! Here it's a matter of just keeping things warm and very few days a year, if any when cooling would be nice. We try not to beach about it... Anything like a window or other small cooling unit envisioned?

Nice layout of the benches, room for lots of tools and process stations.

Looking forward to a Stoddard keel laying!

Cheers: Tom

This looks fantastic. Envious - especially of the built in workbench!

Looks super practical. You’d think a master modeler designed it! I like the long run of bench space that’ll allow you to roll the chair from one project to the next!

Gentlemen, et al -
Thanks for the positive remarks!! At the moment only one of my bench tools is a bit larger than I had anticipated (older Craftsman Band Saw) but I think finding the proper place for it will come in time. I've got small wooden base plates made for all the bench tools and all have felt "feet" underneath the base plate. I will mount the tools to the base plates - this way they can be moved around until a working arrangement is found.

The Admiral had posted the POD early and yard & garden was the rule of thumb today. All in all, we got quite a bit done outside. Perhaps tomorrow I'll be back in the shop to continue things there.

Hank

Admiral also specifies Uniform of the day? ie. Garden Greens?

I suppose if we got rains around here like you do I'd probably find a leak or two. Enjoy! Tom

Undress whites? Haven't seen the thirteen button trousers in a while!

I like the lighting, one can never have too much working light. I'm just waking on tables in my fairly large studio (450 sq ft) but that doesn't make it well organized.

Cheers! Tom

Thanks Tom!! Speaking of lighting, my realtor/contractor/friend is buying a 10 pack of 8' long LED fixtures and will sell me 2 of them at cost. They will replace the single 8' long florescent fixture currently over the front area of the shop.

Today I wired in a single recept. for the future HVAC unit - put it on the left partition front side. It is now on a dedicated 15A breaker and ready when I finally purchase a unit. Here was today's work:
Attachment:
Resized HVAC Receptacle_1.jpg

Tomorrow I hope to get the remainder of the walls/partitions painted. Then, cutting to size & installing ceiling panels/insulation.

Gee Hank, I'm not the least bit jealous I'll have you know! Wow, you are really going all out on this! By the time you finish you won't want to fool around with little plastic toy models any more and will probably hang your shingle out as a carpenter.

Great job! This is going to be a delight to work in when it's done. Now all you have to do is to put in a heated sidewalk from your house to here so you can go out in the winter without having to shovel snow!
