I'm the same as you, I find 1/1 life always interferes with 1/200 modelling! There's always something else to do!

Glad you got the pics sorted, nice to see your progress. I am just waiting for some replacement wood decks from Timhan. I have finished all of the etched deck furniture, primed and pre-shaded it, so will attach the decks and then the bits next.

Have you added any etch to the shelter deck yet? I am wondering whether would be best to attach the deck to the hull first or add the etch to the bulkheads and then glue the deck?

Keep posting!

Cheers, Jabb

Not done any etch yet, I started to,a couple of stairs, but decided they would get in the way so removed them. I will get the shelter deck sorted first, then fit the etch to the later inaccessable places and paint the underside, then fit to the hull.

These are the molding lines I was talking about that need removing, the conning tower platform with the Pontos deck, added side supports and opened doorway. Still more detail to add. The hollowed out Admirals signal platform with the gun supports and frames added. Again, still more to do.

I need to recheck the settings on my camera, some of these photos are massive megabytes and lose a lot of quality on reducing to size for the forum. Will get this sorted out. But for now, on with the show.

While playing with the parts, and adding them Lego like to the hull, I found that the legs of the main tower tripod are, err... not exactly true. No matter how I twisted and contorted them, they refused to align correctly. SOOOOO........ out came the knife, saw, file and Evergreen tubing. Some "modification" of the kit part holes was needed, but most of that work will be covered up by the Pontos brass parts. Rather convenient I thought, thank you Pontos. LOLOL. Anyhoo, the net result is a straight mast.

Filling the release dimples on various parts. This photo only shows a few, there are many more, check your parts.

Hi Pete, coming along! I haven't really had a good look at the kit parts yet but it seems that some seam work will be required, thanks for the heads-up!

Way back I did a piece on photo's and manipulation of images for the site here. Have a look at http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=163176 The only difference is that now you can go up to 2400 pixels maximum and 400Kb. Hope this makes sense to you!

Keep up the good work!

Cheers Jabb

Thanks EJ, one tries. Thank you Jabb, yes, that photo instruction article is really helpful. The shots I am posting so far are all older ones I have taken over the past year, but the new ones later will benefit from your article. so, on with the build. Most of these pics show what I did to the shelter deck. I wanted to add the under deck detail, as this scale just cries out for as much as possible. But, the problem I kept running up against as I perused the other builds available online is that once the beams etc were added, the reduction in ceiling height is really noticeable, and the deck appears much too thick. So, I figured the only option was to thin the kit deck. Out came the butcher knives (again!) and I used the Pontos deck overlays as a template to mark out the offending areas. These were replaced with 10 thou plastic sheet. While cutting out the kit deck pieces, make sure you save the two gun tubs, we still need those. The support beams are made from Evergreen I beams and channels. I also added extensions to the from of the deck houses and put in a center strip at the stern to block the "see-through" effect.

While rather a lot more initial work, this method allows one to add much more detail under the deck and keeps the thickness looking right. The Pontos deck overlays hide the joints on top, and the structure hides them underneath.

MASSIVE improvement!

I'm off tomorrow and my main plan is to attach the shelter-deck. Wish you'd posted that a few weeks ago! Might have done something similar (not exactly the same but probably pretty close.)

Too late now.

Cheers, Jabb

Oops, sorry. But if you have not attatched the shelter deck yet, is it too late? If the Pontos deck overlays are on, then yes, it will be. Regards, Pete in RI

Thinking ahead, does anyone know what size the anchor chains should be? The kit chain seems too small to me and it does not have the center bars in each link. I see Jason has found some 3D printed chain for his Bismark that looks the part, but is the 13.5 links per inch the right size for Hood?
