Thank you Guys I hope you will not be disappointed then the end result

In the past week, the hull has received the primer and then the main colors as well. I used Humbrol spray for the primer and then painted the rest with Vallejo, Mig and AK acrylics. I tried to diversify the deck with a thin brush in different colors and then used the AK deck wash. It got prettier live, the photo distorts a lot. The painting didn’t get perfect, unfortunately the masking wasn’t the best in places, but I keep fixing the bugs all the time. ...

Lovely work thus far. I have a couple of 1/600 Mauretania kits myself so am watching your build with great interest.

Really lovely work to date, very impressive.

Good evening!

I apologize for the pictures, but my phone gave up, for some reason ...

I had almost completely finished the bow and stern deck. Based on the photos and the museum model I could put on (the model isn’t perfect because there’s what’s on it but I didn’t see it in the photos, so I left them out). I used plastic profiles, wire and all kinds of scrap. I forgot to take photos of the upgraded items before painting, I only photographed one hatch on the bow deck. I think it already looks much better than the basic model. On the bow, the second cargo hatch is missing, because I lost them somewhere, so I must replace that...

I started the second class promenade decks. Windows and doors came from the etch parts. I took out a couple of deck chairs from a 1/700 Titanic etch set, and I'll stick them on the more visible parts (and the passengers, but unfortunately I ran out of figures).

I also put on the decals, but the letters were so thick that I was forced to help them with a needle brush and black oil paint. It is far from perfect, but I can't make my own decals : /

Very good progress

as a Mauretania builder :cool_2: --I know how much re-engineering the kit is getting--and your work is very sharp.

A thought/ advice....

5 bar railing is a pig to paint in white without it looking starting to look clunky

you could opt for custom=-made PE as I did with the Normandie-- but that is quite involved..

What I have den with white railing in the past is to paint the mid grey, then run a brush over the grey in white in a gentle ( kind of drybrush) way
so as to reduce the amount of luminescent white - the grey blends into the shadow and the decking colour behind etc

That way the horizontal white lines then appear further apart...
The wooden capping rails I painted in a lighter colour brown along the top than the sides-- visually that reduces the contrasts when viewed from above
and makes the dark brown look slimmer

TRY OUT out on some SCRAP first. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Great work Sszabi! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Do you plan on adding (some of the) ropes and cables seen in the period photograph? It does make for some nice deck clutter... ;)

Thank you gentlemen: D

Jim, thanks for the advice, I'll definitely try. I don't paint yet, I try to make as many items as possible so that I don't have to mix colors all the time ... I've become a little lazy.

Marijn, I plan to put on the ropes too, because the plan so far is to show Mauretania when it arrives in the port of New York, accompanied by 1-2 tugboats. The ropes will be packed by the sailors.

I haven’t achieved a lot of spectacular things these days. Originally, I wanted to use the original boat deck superstructure for the model. But there were so many nasty surface defects on the casting, and the decking was very different from the parts I had already replaced that I would eventually rebuild the whole thing (but I kept the siede walls). In the same way, the entire command bridge will be rebuilt. I was looking for something at home for hours that could have replaced the bridge windows (e.g. from a small ladder etching), but in the end I had to solve it from small plastic elements. Not perfect, but then after sanding I think it will be better. I didn’t just want to put window frames here because I want to open the side doors like in the photos, and the infiltrating outside light will show up well here. I think so, but I may be wrong ...

Starting from a good base brings the model to another level of realization and finishing. :thumbs_up_1:

I can't wait to see what happens next because it's very promising.

Good continuation.

Hi!
First of all, happy holidays to everyone!

I’ve been moving slowly in recent weeks: I’ve been dealing with the superstructures of the boat deck. It took me a long time to glue every little window frame. Some details (e.g. railings) will not be in place until after painting.

The window frames are from a 1/700 Titanic photo etching set. It may be a little smaller than it should be, but based on the pictures, it’s not that striking.

Not seen on the big model, but in the photos: ventilated covers and deck lights. Unfortunately, there were blind spots left, but I glued what I saw in the pictures.

The funnels were given a new base from a 1mm thick plastic sheet. I put another very thin sheet of transparent plastic on it to have the stairs that can be seen in the pictures. Around the edges, I drilled the covers of the ventilation openings (?) One by one and glued them in place. The mushroom vents have larger Plusmodel rivets. I drilled out the place and put the rivets in, then sanded the top.
The bridge was completely rebuilt. I thinned the large vents and drilled them from below so they were as hollow as the real thing. The only problem is that there will be a lot of these .... We are moving slowly but surely: P

This keeps getting better and better. How did you manage to get those bridge windows straight?

Thank you gentlemen :)

Jim, I won't forget to add the mouth cowl bracing  I have a feeling it will also be a hard job.

Unfortunately, the construction has now stopped for a good while because I have run out of the 5 bar railing. Tom's Modelwork kit is unfortunately not enough - I still bought 2 sets - but I would need at least two more. I thought I would use the 4 bar railing for the boat deck, but that wouldn’t be authentic, although the Lusitania was built that way ...
So now we have to save for this - because of course there are no stocks available in Hungary - and ordering from abroad will further increase the budget.

Pieter, the bridge windows were "simple" made: I put small pieces of plastic in their pre-drawn locations. Of course, the result was only acceptable for the 3rd attempt, because it didn't work out as I planned :lol_1:

Hi!

I applied long ago because I ran out of railing and my figures.

I didn’t want to bother with thickening and repainting the Eduard passenger figures, so I bought the Shelf Oddity 1/700 3d figures as a more expensive solution. After painting, no one says they were originally American and Japanese sailors: P I also put a couple of deck chairs in the pointer, unfortunately there are not many reserves of it, so I have to divide it.

There are flaws in the painting, I keep trying to fix it. The primer will arrive next week so I can continue to move up the decks.
