Nice to see someone using deck chairs on small scale build. More of this sort of thing please!

Hi!
Thanks guys, I'm trying!

I took out the first funnel in the last few days. The factory battery is not bad for the base.

I made the platforms from different 1/700 etchings (I don't have 1/600 parts ...).
The horns, for example, are made of cut and bent Yamato artillery PE pieces, the tube of which I thickened with Palmafa glue (in English is the PVA glue?).
Based on the pictures and drawings, I placed steam pipes (?) on both sides of the front of the funnel. The ladder is also a 1/700 etching, in the 1/600 ocean liner set that seemed thick to me.

The thicker steam tubes are cut from injection needles. According to the pictures, these were attached to the funnel by V-shaped or U-shaped brackets, so I pre-filled the space for the wire strands. They may be a little thicker than they should be, but so they are fairly stable in place, some compromise was needed ...

I only saw a few photos of the funnels from above, it’s not clear if they have some sort of grid on them like the ones for example seen on the Olympic-class ships. In a photo of Lusitana, I saw only one such item on top of the 3rd funnel, but in the pictures of Mauretania it is not there. If anyone knows anything about this, feel free to tell me, because I can fix it quickly now ;)

Hello!

I haven't done much with the ship in the last few months (I built a panzer, a plane, another ship...),but I made some progress in the last few days.

All the funnels are finally finished. Fortunately, it was not necessary to build ladders and platforms for each of them, as it is necessary for the Olympic class. I bent the fixing points of the rigging from small strands of wire, that was more time.

The railing has also been added to the superstructure. I had a lot of trouble with it, because it is full of curves and protruding parts.

During the dry tests, however, it turned out that the self-made decks did not fit perfectly :doh_1: I hope it can be corrected because I don't want to start all over again.
(parts just added only for the photography, nothing is glued)

Good to see you continue on this one Sszabi! (even though I can appreciate a good plane or tank too ;) )

Great job on those funnels! Now she really looks like Mauretania.

Love the way you did the railings. Nice and straight.

Thank you gentlemen!

I have been working on the base for the past few days, there is nothing extra in it, and it will be better when painted. It's cheaper that way than having a carpenter do it, and I like them.
I painted the funnels, and the base color was given to the decks. On the other hand, I managed to perish the painting of the funnels, because I masked out the black stripes, but not the pipe at the front and back of the funnel and the platforms... so now I'm trying to somehow lighten it with the original red color :/

looking very Maury-like .

The apparent vastness of the decks will be balanced once lifeboats and Davits appear... :thumbs_up_1:

handy thoughts... (!??) :cool_2:

For the black funnel bands in small scales rather than masking-
-I have always used black decal striping

not any old decal striping -- but use TK Decal striping from Germany

https://tl-modellbau.de/Surface-and-stripes-

PERFECT EDGES and NO CARRIER FILM at the sides

join the strip underneath the steam pipes or dead aft...
it gives a razor sharp finish and adjustability ! :thumbs_up_1:

Jim, thank you for the advice :thumbs_up_1: , now I'm thinking of starting over the funnels and doing the strips with this decal (unfortunately, I didn't know there were such decals...).

I made a little progress with the work, I placed a couple of deckchairs and passengers on deck A. There weren't as many lounge chairs as shown in the pictures, but unfortunately I'm running out of stock... I am forced to fasten the decks with screws, because the built sidewalls are so stiff that gluing cannot ensure that they remain stable. It seems a bit barbaric, but otherwise it does what it needs to.

Hi! :wave_1:

I didn't abandon the project, but the last few months were not easy.. I bought a house last year, I started what could be renovated, I had to do a lot of things myself because the money ran out and I didn't have time for almost anything... :dead:

Well, a little progress: I put up the railings made of wire fiber in a circle on the superstructure, and the wooden decoration on the edge of the roof was also made of wire fiber. At the very top, the imitation of the wooden railing is still missing. I painted the windows, and in the first part, based on the photos, small openings or windows were added (I don't know what their purpose is).
The front closed railing (?) of the boat deck was also built, which also received stiffeners on the inner side from pulled wire. Even here, the upper part of the wooden railing is missing, and I didn't even install the small braces under the deck.
I imitated the glazing of the row of windows on the bridge with 3D lacquer, the method has already worked well for me on the Titanic and the Olympic. Here, I still have to make up for the design of the closed wheelhouse, this was left behind.
In 1907 the Verandah Cafe was still fully open towards the stern and of course you can see in there. Based on the photos, 6 tables have already been completed there, but only 2 chairs... I am cutting and bending these from a split ladder etching, it is progressing quite slowly. I glued a few strips of paper to imitate the carpet on the deck, and also the missing columns. I printed a nicely constructed imitation on paper for the inside of the walls, which ultimately didn't make sense, because the printer only displayed spots after the reduction... it's barely visible anyway. Benches were fixed to the walls, I will put this up as well, I found a piece of Yamato etching that fits here that was left out :P

Very nice detail work. I'm taking notes for my own liner builds.
The small openings were skylights for the first class suites and the hallways between them.

Thanks guys!
It took quite a long time, but I made the chairs and painted them :cool_1: . The Café was a little more crowded than in the pictures... There was also room for 2 passengers and a couple of plants to complement the decoration. Once I glue the superstructure on, a lot of this won't actually be visible, but it's still better than being completely blank. Plus, I like to torture myself with these :D

The plants are a really nice detail, that still remains visible.
