Thanks for the comments. Hope you've all been well. Back from the dead and work resumes. :woo_hoo:

Here are some photos of the model as it presently appears with new L'Arsenal resin 5-inch/38 single mounts installed. Yorktown carried four 5 inch/38 caliber Mk.24 mounts during WWII, all on the port side. It was necessary to have these single mounts on the port side since the 5" twin mounts fore and aft of the island on the starboard side could not be depressed sufficiently when firing to port. Additionally, aircraft on the flight deck would foul their firing arcs, and firing the twins to port put the flight deck and any aircraft nearby at risk to blast damage.

I think L'Arsenal captured their look beautifully.

It's awesome that your back. I keep looking over your build for inspiration for my own USS Essex. I'm always amazed at what you have done. Glad to see the fun continue. Can't wait to see more.

Thank you so much! I missed all of you and modeling. It's good to be back.

Hope all of your builds are terrifically enjoyable!

My only complaint about my builds is... dust, dust, dust. Thank goodness for a great curio. It was a wedding gift from my wife. Great wife.

What a beautiful project!!! Best Essex- class hands down!! :thumbs_up_1:
Are putting an airwing just as detailed on this gem? (like dripping engine oil, peeling paint around the cowlings , wiring harness for the radials and weighted/treaded tires? ) :big_grin:

I tried building the Essex, but it broke me. Than I broke it...

Bravo so far!

I know the feeling. When I first got the kit and compared the it to AOTS drawings, the more I thought this model was going to be a real challenge. Worth it, though.

Quad Bofors on the workbench next. And the Trumpeter aircraft are getting some fine-tuning, too (first thing is the filling of the oversize panel lines).
