Thought I'd post my Rodney build and hopefully get some guidance along the way. I chose to model her after her Boston refit while she was all still all grey, but late enough where she was still close to the kit. The biggest omission so far is lack of a external degaussing cable before it moved to the inside of the ship.

Image

Well it's big... Pontos resin cleat on the bow were installed backward by mistake.

Image

Painted with Colourcoats Home Fleet Grey A/B Narn 20. A bit of a comprise from the darker grey. The Antifouling Red is also Colourcoats. Gloss Coated with Aqua Gloss. Artvox wood deck after I ruined the Pontos one. It will be a bit of problem to do the Pontos deck layout with the Artvox deck as is cut for stock parts to pop out.

Image

Mostly the Artvox deck plates and water breaks. The Paravane sheds are Pontos.

Image

Some the vents around the turret and third water break.

Bow with mostly Pontos resin and brass.

Image

Micro Master has some really nice stuff. I wanted to try their vent kits and skylights which are a huge improvement over the kits. They everywhere too.

Image

This is one of the smallest vents painted and installed. They have nice detail on top where Trumpeter does not show any.

One of my favourıte battleships!

Doing her in 1/200 would be to big for myself, but I'll enjoy watching all the detail this scale allows on your build. ;)

Yea, it kind of reminds me of the Jaguar Type E with long nose to fit the V12.

Image

Black hole for parts. A couple of mushroom vents sprouting and some vent covers open around turret.

Image

Some of the back 40 with Pontos bits and chocks and ledge around pom pom station.

Image

Small winch and a good shot of the PE that edges the deck with the water barrier being painted non slip grey.

The electric deck winches. Still need a little fine tuning, but am glad to have finished.

Thanks Guys.

Image

Here are the two bow derricks with the kit's base to plug the hole with the Artwox deck. Sorry about the misspelling before.

Image

Derricks in place and more vents. The booms are hinged, so I'll probably rig them up later, but much safer for now stowed.

Image

I got a couple Micro Master 4.7 mm guns to try, but with the molded in pedestals they sat too high. Drilling them out was the only thing I could come up with at this stage. Wouldn't have been a problem if it was planned for.

Image

A test fit of the 4.7mm MK VIII, the detail is stunning.

Great detail indeed! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

This shows that 1/200 does have something extra to offer over 1/350, if done well.

Thanks :thumbs_up_1:

Most of the deck fittings installed. I think there are around 150 mushroom vents on the main deck and I am still shy a couple of small ones. The cable reels still need to be installed, but this will not have the 20mms and tubs.

Image
Some the deck details. Couple boo boos that need to be addressed.

Working on the uppers decks. Everything is Colourcoats Narn 20 and all walking surfaces are Colorcoats RN Non Slip grey. Camera not picking up the colors very well in this shot. All the 4.7" splinter shield supports were removed and repositioned with Pontos supports.

ImageNdjd

I ground down the round 4.7" mounts to fit the Micro Master guns. This also show some Pontos decking which adds a bit of detail to the kit's bare deck. Pontos 16' Drift boat mount also installed.

ImageCnrf

Starting to populate decks. The skylight in the hatches are Elmer's Glue and the first of the ladders placed. This shows the colors contrast a little better between the two greys.

A little more on the upper decks.

Image
Battle bridge (?) before the the primer flies. It will not receive the 20mm tub on top. The Sept 41 version would only have two 20mms, so all the tubs will not be installed. The only bonus to that is you get a keep a couple of quad .50cal Vickers which are neat guns.

Image
Mast test fit. The round director station on the rear of the deck would not have been installed till 42. I should have cut it off, but a little gun shy hacking anything off.

Image
Rear... Pom Pom Sponson will cover most of the lower rear.

Greetings all :wave_1: Still plugging away on the boat deck.

Image
Rear of the boat deck with the Pontos Flag Lockers and a couple of Micro Master's Life Vest Lockers added. Everything will get touch up paint and a wash before the pom pom station covers the top.

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2mnE2Yu]Image
All of the Mushroom Vents are installed on this piece. A wash was applied 4.7" gun deck to highlight the deck lines while it was still pretty empty. I didn't want the wash that heavy, but here we are. There is a break in the lines where the 20mm tubs would go on either side. Can either install the tubs or just plug the holes with round PE scrap. Micro Master 16' Drift Boat in the front mounts

Close up of the Drift Boat. I hope I can do it justice.

Great work! :thumbs_up_1:

Remarkable how little those boats have changed since the age of sail... ;)

Much appreciated guys.

ImageJdhd

Not a whole lot to show for the week. The pom-pom platforms installed.

Image
Yet a couple more vents and a pair of lookout stations added. I am not sure what color to paint the bottom of the 16' drift boat. Was thinking of black below the waterline, but if anyone has any suggestions, I would like to hear them.

Image
Getting some sunlight from basement windows instead of the fluorescents.

Some work on the funnel.

Image
Interior funnel catwalks as they looked before four tumbles to the floor. Cut away the locating pins on the top half of the funnel because they were pretty visible looking inside.

Image
Front platform and fog horns. The oval ring on top took a lot of sanding before it fit.

Image
Rear walkway and search light platform supports.

Hello everyone, funnel part 2.

Image
I was dreading the funnel top and was going to save it till the end until I realized some it sat inside the rather than just laying on top. The funnel interior had to be gutted because the railing of the walk way sat too high, preventing the grating from seating properly. It took a lot of sanding to get it to fit and a lot of the detail was broken off during the process.

Image
The cat walks inside were painted non-slip grey. The interior of the stack and the pipes were painted with Tamiya Semi Gloss Black lacquer. The crown and outside oval were paint Colourcoats flat black. The vent pipes coming up from the outside had holes drilled, but I need to go back over them and clean them up.

Image
I mounted it to the ship before I wanted due to it tipping over and breaking about every 20 minutes. Still need to the non-slip on the floor of the searchlight platform and straighten the some ladders.

That funnel is a mini-kit all to itself. Nice work.
