Very nice work. Like the rafts a lot. She's going to be very impressive when finished.

Excellent work Harpy, I had been looking at the Micromaster Pom pom directors myself but wasn't sure if the only difference was the radar which of course at the time of Hood's sinking they weren't fitted.
Is it as simple as removing the antenna's to get a good representation of the earlier design?

Keep up the great work

Pete

Thanks Martin, I think it's a good bang for the buck item.

Greenglade, I think so. I believe that Micro Master make a set without the antenna in a different scale. They looked pretty close to me. The only thing to be careful of is the Trumpeter's directors are pretty small and I really had to cram Micromaster's into the tubs removing a small platform on bottoms of the directors to get them to fit. It is also pretty easy to damage the directors removing the antenna. I did. I would recommend you leave them on the supports when chopping the antennas.

Cheers Hary

I am getting pretty used to handling Micromaster gear now, have to be very careful until painted and fitted, but boy do they look the part...:)

Greetings Everyone.

Mircomaster has added a set of Pom Pom directors without the antennas and added 9m Ranger finders on his site in 1/200.

Image
The bigger directors that will go on top of the bridge structure. Pontos adds the Type 284 gunnery radar to the front DCT which was added during the 9/41 refit. On the smaller directors the long vision port should be on top. It was shown upside down in the instructions.

Image
I left the director off the platform until the lower antenna was mounted. Will knock down some glue bumps with acetone before primer.

Image
Nice engineering by Pontos with good fit.

Hello all.

Image
Thankfully the bridge mast is not as complex as the other. Since I used the Trumpeter parts for the older style AA platform, the mast needs to be shortened by a 1/4" or so. I mentioned elsewhere it would have to be extended, that was incorrect.

Image
Pontos deletes the compass platforms because I think they were removed and dropped down a deck in '42. I used an extra set of search light platforms to add them back.

Image
The MM's quad Vickers added and a better peak at the signal lights. I broke off the top barrel on the Vickers, but made another.

Image
Directors painted and test fitted.

Hello all.

Image
I finally glued down the shelter deck to the hull and bridge structure to the shelter deck and can continue to populalte the main deck with everything glued down.

Image
I got a couple of MicroMaster Pom Poms to try. My main concern was that they might not fit in the B turret tub, but that won't be an issue. Used Mr Surfacer 1500 for some of these parts as primer. Even though they are high quality prints you can see some print marks under magnifcation and in my mind, they look less fuzzy with Mr. Surfacer espesically with Colour Coats. The one pictured still needs ammo boxes.

Greetings all.

Image
Pom Pom with all its parts.

Image
Finally decided to start the main turrets. The Pontos barrels are longer the kits because they are mounted deeper into the turret to set the mantels back a bit from the openings.

Image
Pontos gives you two shield types for high or low angles on the guns.
Edit: The mantel sides are installed backwards.

Test fit.

Hello everyone.

Image
Had to flip the shield sides as they were installed backwards not allowing for the plastic support to be installed. I also made a barrel jig to help align the barrels.

Image
Test fit of the turrets before they get finished up and the barrels set. X turret also has a duplicate of "A" turret's top brass from a partial set I had. On the Pontos X turret brass it has overhang for the 20mm tubs, again a '42 mod that would not be applicable to the 9/41 refit.

Hello and Thanks Neptune. She was a beast.

Image
Turret with all the etch and primed with Mr. Metal Primer.

Image
"A" turre

Image
"B" Turret painted. While drying on top of furnace the turrets began to melt, so they needed putty work and a new paint job which went poorly.

Image
"B" and "X" turrets. They are still two-tone grey, but it is not picked very well here. Still WIP on turrets, but a lot of work is done.

Image
A wider shot.

Greetings everyone, and thanks Gary.

Image
Finally getting to the 4.7" guns, some have been sitting around for almost a year.

Image
I got some texture on the barrel, but it is a pretty tight shot.

Image
MM's 9ft Range Finders with a bit Mr Surfacer to help find support bumps that need sanded.

Image
All parts installed on bridge (I think). Pom Pom directors replaced after I butchered, and man handled them cutting the antennas off.

Hello, a bit more progress.

Image
4.7" mounted then back to the main deck for hatches stowage.

Image
The 3d printing technoloy is just mind blowing to me.

Image
Test fit of the 45ft' boat to make sure the deck hardware is aligned.

Very impressive work. You mentioned that you used Mr Metal Primer on the turrets - did you brush it on or use and airbrush? If airbrushed, what thinner did you use?
